Have you considered doing a video on Choice Scarf? If that's too broad, maybe just a single gen, or a tier within a gen that has your favorite scarf sets both ubiquitous and niche! I'd love to hear speed tier history in general, like how the shifting popularity of sets on common Pokemon, or important bans of certain Pokemon, affected speed tiers over time!

I should've mentioned Donphan as a spinner. I really liked using it a few years ago. It was great. People are all on the Claydol train now, though... Also, here's the replay I mentioned at the end of the video - it's long, but I promise it's awesome / worth the watch: replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3ou-386420

The claydol train has gone so far that Missdreavous is being used on super man to wall claydol forever and to prevent it from ever spinning. Same goes for Imprison Dusclops which uses Imprison to stop snorlax from using shadow ball or rest and it has the benefit of walking stamie/ Claydol all match.

Wow spikes are such an interesting mechanic! The exclusivity in its users and the various immunities flying around sure do make one think in the teambuilder! I sure hope gamefreak keeps up this trend in future gens and doesn't create a new entry hazard that hits literally every mon in the game, breaks the kneecaps of fire, bug, and ice types for simply existing, and almost every decent mon gets. That would be awful.

@tysondennis10167 ай бұрын
Here’s an idea for an entry hazard: Ice Slick. This Ice-type entry hazard damages grounded Pokémon that switch in, based on their weight. Ice-types are immune. Here’s how much damage it does, depending on weight: -1/2 max HP to Pokémon more than 200 kg -1/4 max HP to Pokémon less than 200 kg, but more than 100 kg -1/8 max HP to Pokémon less than 100 kg, but more than 50 kg -1/16 max HP to Pokémon less than 50 kg, but more than 25 kg -1/32 max HP to Pokémon less than 25 kg Making it Ice-type Stealth Rock would be boring, if it just affected mons based on their defensive matchup against Ice. Making it deal damage based on weight would be cool. Also, Ice-types get a bit of a buff, as lots of them can learn this move, and they themselves are immune to Ice Slick. Flying-types and Levitate mons also enjoy this immunity. It’ll definitely help out Bug and Grass-types, who tend to be lightweight, while it’ll hurt Rock, Ground, and Steel-types, who tend to be heavy.

@jmcbango2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the mon and situation. Sandstorm is gonna be in effect every single game, while the opponent may not get spikes up every game; but then again, theres leftovers to cancel out sandstorm

Why would clyster not be hard countered by magnaton ? 4:20
@Jilufan2 жыл бұрын
Simply because the Cloyster can get out of the Magneton, and is not trapped by it and simply dies
@jayplay88692 жыл бұрын
@@Jilufan right so the mind set would be, mag who he’s in hard. You now have to play the game of , are they hard switching and if so to what and then that comes into play wouldn’t the mag be hard switching as well? All in all it still stops clyster from wanting to be out on the field… which doesn’t make since you be called hard countered by something you scare off.
@TheOriginalSixx2 жыл бұрын
@@jayplay8869 Cloyster can come in on something else and set Spikes as Magneton switches in. Cloyster is then free to simply switch out to something that beats Magneton. Unlike Skarmory and Forretress who will be trapped and give up a free kill if Magneton switches into them when they set Spikes. BKC isn't talking in the sense of Cloyster and Magneton fighting 1v1. Also, if the Cloyster player can predict a Magneton switch-in, Magneton doesn't really like taking a Surf from Cloyster on the switch-in.
@cowboydan47612 жыл бұрын
@@jayplay8869 To add on to what Reece said, magneton teams tend to rely on magneton as their answer to spikes as whole just because of how ubiquitous skarm is and so when they can no longer trap and kill the opponent's spiker they're going to find themselves dealing with 3 layers a lot more often which puts a lot more pressure on those teams. Magneton obviously hard counters cloyster 1 on 1 but cloyster teams don't have to worry about magneton as a spike prevention method so they tend to fare well against them.

To add onto the other comments, standard set of cloyster outspeeds magneton and 2hko with surf

Kyogre is even more powerful, the latis are no longer a check because Gen 7 soul dew nerfs, darkrai isn’t the threat it once was due to dark void nerfs, clef and arceus-fairy offer dragon immunities which is huge, Defog means spin blocking is not AS valuable as it was in Gen 4. Fully unleashed Arceus is in the tier, without the EV restrictions of farceus. Rayquaza has Dragon Ascent as a stab option, so SD/DD sets can hit without locking into a move. The creation trio lost outrage, but both giratina forms got defog. Regen Ho-Oh seems like it would be broken but without HGSS… no brave bird Mewtwo not only gained Psystrike but also Nasty Plot, terrifying offensive threat. Gen 7s burn nerf is quite significant for passive damage given that many lost access to toxic and must thus rely on wisp Many moves are also weaker due to Gen 6’s power nerfs
@ryanborn70262 жыл бұрын
You repeat, between all your videos and FSG singles sections, this mantra that the second layer of spikes is not worth it unless you get the 3rd, and its sheer repetition makes me question if that really makes sense. Obviously, one layer of spikes is good 12.5%. Three layers is sick at 25%. But 2 layers feels bad because its a 4.2% (absolute) increase. And you reasonably say "you can be doing more with the second spikes turn." But is this underselling it? surely a second layer of spikes is significantly easier to get, and an extra 4.2% increases your spike damage by 33%.. If leftovers heals 1/16th, then this negates 2/3rds of the leftovers heal -- again, i agree not that big, but you point out that sand alone canceling out leftovers is a huge deal for viability. If that second layer of spikes lasts for a mere 6 eligible switches, its canceling out 4 leftover-heal-equivalents.
@BKCplaysPokemon2 жыл бұрын
it's not that it's not worth it - it's that it is often not the /best/ move you can make unless you can guarantee the third (i.e. skarmory might be better off whirlwinding or double switching rather than going for the second spike and letting the opp switch for minimal reward). it's not a truism obviously, that second layer can be really huge in some cases, but it requires some forethought

you mentioning cacturne being banned because of sand veil really makes me sad. dont get me wrong, evasion stuff is stupid and uncompetitive, and in a metagame where 90% of games have sand, cacturne is obviously busted. but damn i wish we had a metagame of cacturne in some capacity, cause it seems like itd be a really cool pokemon in ADV OU, with its unique typing granting it resists to a lot of common moves, while sadly being weak to spikes and sand without sand veil.
