I grew up in nearby Woodchester in the 60s and 70s, and Stroud and Nailsworth were the nearest towns for shops. I've lived in the Far East since 1988, so looking forward to watching!

Dear Robin, when I left Stroud in the early eighties for the RAF, I never realised that I´d left for good. It is nice to see my old town again and I will visit in the future. My partner tells me that when I speak of my childhood there, my eves light up with all of the wonder that a young lad, who was in love with the village, the common, the wonderful winding lanes, heady summers... I promised her that I will take her to experience all of the above and your series is the perfect prelude to such a journey. Many thanks from Berlin Larry

@@indicablue7450 I would love to, I've just 3 more years to work and then relax. I fear though, house prices around the five valleys would be prohibitive to this simple lad and where I would've loved to live. It's nice to dream of though!

@@thejetbloke4509 yeah I get you. I'm not well enough to work so noone will rent a place to me here. It's so unfair as it makes it hard for people to go home. My partner was just lucky. If you have any famiky here you can go for a council place I'm told. Housing associations take years to get bit not all house prices are so bad. If I ever get lucky enough to buy a little place here I will. Untill then I stay in a small flat with my partner & our little one until the land lady decides she wants her place back. Then we'd have to go back to Portsmouth, which I really do not want to do! Good luck if you ever do move back. Makes a lovely holiday here too.

This place is my hometown. I've lived my whole life here. ^_^ It's actually the quaint little town that Wilbert Awdry, creator of The Railway Series (known more by it's TV adaptation; Thomas & Friends) lived the last portion of his life. One of the stories, Train Stops Play, is even based on something that happened in Stroud.

4:44 Ooh! Ooh! That cream-coloured shop with the blue van in front is a really nice bakery. They make great breads and cakes. I always go for the bags of small rolls, a cottage loaf and any of the square cakes. Those come in chocolate, lemon and "party" variants. Not a fan of the flapjacks though as those tend to be gritty. :/

The bread donkey boy is about the same age my partners grandad would have been & both lived in chalford. Cant yet find out who he was. My partners great grand parents had the stirrup cup in chalford, the pub. Mike oldfield lived up the road from there Bisley way. I just love the Cotswolds & the history & people are nicer here. Kids can leave toys outside , noone steals them & people put things where ypu can see them if youve lost something. Much more community spirit here. More than ive seen anywhere in the country so far & ive moved around a lot! Have so many stories about the cotswolds thanks to my partner & his family. Its so interesting. His great great grandad & other family members did the wood work in some local churches like Bisley i think & others & the roofs pews etc.beatiful work! Funny thete are 2 great carpenters in his family now.

Come On! You can do better than this. You have barely scratched the surface. Just research one modest area: Minchinhampton Common and you will find the presence of William the Conqueror's daughter and other royalty. Even today Princess Anne lives nearby. And on and on.
