You forgot to mention that the noxious scythe didn’t have any benefits, it wasn’t a halberd on release so it was pointless to use Edit: I don’t know if you were a late bloomer to eoc like a lot now but it’s still a good video man ^^

In terms of level requirements on release of EoC, Torva and chaotics were indeed the highest. But they were actually not really BiS on release. Dharok's was hilariously OP back then which completely outclassed T80s, and Vesta's spear also did far more damage than it was supposed to because it was classified as a "Fast" weapon instead of "Average", so the damage scaling didn't work properly and ended up closer to T95. Enhanced Excalibur was also very slightly behind something that I can't remember (T80s or T90s?), which was interesting. All of these were fixed eventually and Torva/chaotics did briefly reclaim their BiS status before drygores, but they definitely dominated for a time there. Also, switches did not get widely used until early 2014 because switches had a huge 3 second GCD every time you swapped equipment, so people camped vigour instead which was better than the Sixth Age circuit or warrior's/onyx ring (i). At most, you'd bring a shield for Kalphite King if you really knew what you were doing as a Heal Voke, although most people (including myself back then) just shield camped to avoid the cooldown penalty. And as an anecdote, I don't think anyone did dual wield/2h swaps for anything until 2016. It was maybe barely used in 2015, but 2016 was when switches started to become really incorporated into the meta. In addition, I'd elaborate more on the AoE ability buffs (Hurricane, Cleave, Quake). Cleave was buffed from 10 seconds to 7 seconds after Legacy buffed Decimate because it was an oversight. Hurricane and Quake speak for themselves, but Barge and Surge actually shared cooldowns until that same update with buffing halberds and scythe. Fun fact: I was actually responsible for buffing those Melee abilities and Jagex basically implemented everything I suggested down to the detail, save for Hurricane which had its numbers tweaked to match Wild Magic/Snapshot average hits. I still think auras in general could have been talked about because Brawler was introduced in 2015, long after Sharpshooter and Runic Accuracy. That's a Melee specific power creep that did matter a lot then. Maybe blood necklaces could have been included somewhere, since they were better than amulet of souls if your target wasn't reflect immune. Otherwise it was a good video - it's definitely nostalgic to look back at EoC and all of those updates!

Great additions, thanks for taking the time to comment. The dual wield 2h/swaps was just a way for me to show both dw and 2h at the same time without needing an otherwise identical set up twice. It was very hard to find information on the pre-legacy era (maybe I should have asked you, lol) as the wiki is basically scrubbed of information from the early EOC era, especially the critical hit buffs, armour stats and hp stats of item so I relied on the video I could find from the first year of EOC and my intuition. I had asked a couple friends who played around the time and they said it looked good but now I know for the other two styles. I came back to the game in Early 2014 (about a month or two before Legacy update) so I was relying heavily on my memory from that era and turns out I was a massive noob back then. Aura's were definitely something worth talking about, and a miss that I hope to correct on the other two styles.

@@10pin Try legacy combat in rs3. It's like the old school combat with a few tweaks and balancing. It's really fun and because of that I enkoy both of the versions.

@@Trolejbuss. I've tried legacy and it's really great for basic combat, but as you progress you'll need to use at least revolution to do higher level PvM. That being said I'm glad you're enjoying both games! :)

I feel like EOC did more than just a major update/rework. This is why it got a huge negative feedback by the community and it took x years before some players were able to cope and enjoy the changes to date. Honestly, I think the player base would have been still massive if they have released OSRS at the same time or if they offered EOC as a new game.

I know this video was Melee focused, but it probably worth mentioning Void in the early EOC. Voids damage buff outclassed most Armour sets at the time and for a time void was being used everywhere.

nice video! i just felt like void shoudl've been up there, as it was the only armor people would use for bossing before invention came out. the accurary outdpsed the bonus from malev basically everywhere. void was used by everyone for every style before invention

Seems the power creep is increasing exponentially. I don't know what exactly happened, and maybe I'm just a boomer, but RuneScape seemed so much easier when they only changed the meta once or twice a year. It allowed for a nice balance of grinding your way to best in slot then maybe chilling with some skilling or casual solo/group PvM. Just for fun. Now it seems like there's ZERO down time. As soon as I have the best gear, it's already outclassed. There are abilities that cost hundreds of millions of coins now, so even if you have the absolute best gear with high end augments, well, you still can't DPS like a pro. Say what you want to about how the long periods without a major upgrade caused the market to stagnate. I'm not saying it should be like Old School where some of the best armor in the game is obtained for free from quests, but as a full-time university student, I feel like I have to choose between doing poorly in the real world or falling behind in RuneScape. And it didn't used to be like that. You used to be able to quit for a few months and pick up where you left off. These days if you do that, you return to the game about 1.5 bill short on upgrades with a whole bunch of new shit to learn. It's exhausting.

Rs3 slays wow as the compounded player power isnt bunk after a patch, we use bandos still from 14 years ago so.. idk osrs feels more or less a rerun youve seen 1000 times and its grindy for minimal replay as rs3 has endless pvm and lovely custom skinning eoc is like wow being done right. Its a great rpg experience with an immersive and fluid gameplay.

few things are incorrect. emberkeen boots where never degrade to dust. they degraded back to previous state "steadfasts". ZGS is actually always better as a switch and not as a main use weapon. even when you just had drygores and a zgs. camping zgs would be slightly worse dps single target "usually just used for a spec and swap for cleave inbetween" so putting it as mean weapon and drygore as switch/khopesh as switch is incorrect its elder godwars. not godwars dungeon 3. and no it wil NOT be a godwars dungeon like 1 and 2. as per jagex statement. =3

zgs is the best in slot weapon. yes, it is used as a switch, but if you were to pick only one weapon (aka the best in slot) to use, you'd go for zgs. with zgs you can zerk then use its spec, which outdpses dw. zgs is the best in slot weapon for melee in the game, hence why you'd go for dual dryg and zgs instead of dual khop and a scyte.

@@jpedrosta zgs is good as a spec swap. but single target damage its lower dps output. and if you count "within zgs spec" you also have to count it vs drygore/khopeshes IN zgs spec. since you don't have to wield zgs to benefit. 2h is lower single target dps then dualwield . thats why it is NOT bis. but one of the 2 BIS swaps. masterwork spear as bleed swap and zgs for spec swap/cleave swap.

Its not cosmetic, it just isnt BiS, nowadays its the tokhaar-capes, comp cape still give better defence & life bonus but slightly lower offensive bonuses

Void could have been in the pre-ROTS section but once t90 armour came out it was better than void. Void was the same damage as t90 power armour but with a ton less armour and HP, people mostly used void because it was free not because it was the best
