I'm glad more and more people are learning about Nubain history. Because since the 18th and 19th century with the whitewashing of Egypt. It has greatly overshadowed Nubia. When Nubia itself was a great civilization and a player on the world stage. With trade links all the way to India and China. As well as trade with the Roman Empire.

The Nubians were great worriors and were able to defend their territory against Arab conquerers from the north. The Arabs called for backup and lost three times until they were obliged to sign the treaty known as teeaty of BEQT. This treaty lasted more than 600 years making it the longest treaty in recorded history. This shows how strong they were, specialy at the time Arab conquerers were so powerful even reached Andalousia. During this time Arabs penetrated as buisnessmen and married with Nubians and later on conquered and took over Sudan . And since the militants were men only they took multiple women as wives conveted them to Islam and Arabized Sudan. Now only Few thousands are barely able to maintain their culture and language.All Pre-Arab conquest history was deemed unimportant and purposfuly omited. And their language is considered inferior to Arabic.This is what happened to many Indiginous people like the Amazig and coptics in north Africa and Egypt. Much love From your Eritrean brother.

Arabs were only one of numerous groups with whom some Nubian groups intermarried with and even then that wasn't significant enough to alter the local demographics.

I'm just learning about nubian history and this was a great one to start with. Funnily enough, in our school's history books-I'm Sudanese and live there - they always gloss over that part, just sinppets of information here and there. When we learned about the turks and the English, they are described as colonizers - as they should be in that era- but never the Arabs and I've always thought it in my head" didn't these people invade us before too?"but I would never dare to explore it out loud because some people might take it as an attack on Islam, I remember trying to bring out this topic with some university colleagues and I was given weird looks and was immediately shut down with Islam saved us and how gracious and good Muslims were back then and such, so to hear someone say it in a video means a lot. There is a huge colorism and internalized rasicm in Sudan, even when talking about their ethnic heritage most people will put great emphasis on the fact that they have Arabs ancestors but they for the most part deny the other parts of themselves although they look more like those parts than Arabic and it was one of many reasons I was put off by Arab culture for so many years, I'm not hating, I just couldn't understand what's so special about other races and what's wrong with admitting to our roots, we freaking look them man! I'm just venting at this point but yh more excited to learn more.

HomeTeam, love your channel, it's scary how much I didn't know. One big criticism about this video, a very common mistake: you're not differentiating between the Nubian tribe and the Nubian supertribe. The members of the supertribe are Nubians, Ja'ali (my tribe, the largest in north Sudan), Shagiya, Danagla, Beja (my opinion) and more. The supertribe lives in all of north Sudan. The subtribe lives in the Egypt-Sudan border area. In the video, you show photos of all the supertribe, yet you mostly discuss the Nubian (sub)tribe's location and political issues only. This issue is important because there is misinformation causing people to believe that only the Nubian (sub)tribe and the Beja are indigenous, whereas the Ja'ali, Shagiya, Danagla (majority of north Sudanese) are Arab and thus nonindigenous. Of course that ticks me off because no one can tell us part physically (including the Beja) and we have highly similar culture (including the Beja). But people say my tribe is Arab (non-indigenous), then show a picture of someone from my tribe and say this person is indigenous. Gives me high blood pressure. Our identity has been straight up hi-jacked and there's a lot of confusion about "Nubian" and demonization of my tribe (as if Arabs aren't human). Big point: there's a Nubian (sub)tribe and a Nubian supertribe. The majority of north Sudanese are Nubian supertribe members. I personally include the Beja, but I wanna hear what they think.

I'm Kenyan Somali and there are Nubian tribe in Kenya too but they look totally different from those depicted in the video. The Kenyan Nubian tribe are closer to nilote(especially river lake nilotes)in physical appearance while those shown here look cushite.are they both from same ancestry?
@MohamedHassan-gy5wy2 жыл бұрын
No. Nubians are not monolithic people are not homogenous, but the ones you're mentioning are not Nubians rather Nilotes who maybe had migrated from Sudan before they arrived in parts of Kenya. The Cushites in Northeast Africa are only Beja, while the rest of Cushitic speakers moved to Horn/East Africa during the Neolithic period where they reached far Southeast Africa near modern day Congo.

Dear brother, please allow me to disagree with you here. Im from Nubia. There was no intermerage of any kind between Nubians and Arabs, specially in the far North. Arabs are the most racist group on this planet earth when it comes to "Blacks", even here in America. I admit desptie of this, Arabs had very, very, deep and profound respect to the charactor of today's Nubians as individuals in a way that's very hard to belive despite Arab preconcived notiion/stereotype about "Blacks" in general! yes it's a profound contradiction! Yes despite thier deep respect to the chartor/behaviour of today's Nubians but we still remain in their subconsious as "Blacks" regardless!! Nubians resisted the arab invation for over 600 years which is unheard of! only when 2/3 of the our pobulation was wiped out, the Capital of Kush in Dongola collapsed and as a result, Arabism colonial identity started it's tragic long journey in our land, as a driect result of centuries upon centuires of slavery in the name of Islam! the most dangrours weapon ever in the hand of our conquorers is/was always this thing called "Religion"! this is how Nubia was conqured! Im not an atheist, i'm a "Sophist". Sophisim was the faith of our ancestors since the pyramid age. the so called "philosophy" came from "Sophism" as we all know. to this very day Sophisim is the fabric of today's Nubian/African charachtor subconsciously. yes spritualism is the strongest point of the Nubian/African characher and it's also at the same time, represtn our weekness! if you want to bring blacks to their knee, approach them through the so called "religion"! Do you know there is NO equivilant of the word/term "Religion" in our Nubian language? my elders use to yell at me when i talk in front of them in Arabic languae! they don't like that at! all the way to the end of 1960s there was No Arabic language in Dongola area. Dongola was the last capital of Kush/Nubia, the "Strong hold and the Flood gate" as Chancellor williams put it best. respect to my dear African Americans teachers. I kiss the groudn you walk on dear sisters and brothers!

K Bashasha - I disagree. Even Egypt’s President Anwar Sadat (assassinated) was half Nubian half Arab.

🙋🏽♂️ I am an African American and a follower of the way pertaining to the Son of God as it was originally called before the pagans mockingly called the earliest believers Christians ✅ 😔 Sincere believers according to the Bible or the Torah like me mean you no harm ❌ I can't say the same about 😒 a lot of the Muslims.

@@MisterTurner-ex1fv - I'm an African American too. I was born in Nubia but raised in America since I was three. I'm also a muslim. Dear brother, please don't fall for the mainstream propaganda. WE mean YOU no harm ... Please come visit our land and meet our people before stereotyping us. As our dear brother Malcolm once said, "The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses." Our son Malcolm visited our land and said, "In 1959, I visited Khartoun [sic] and Omdurman in the Sudan, and also visited the Muslims in Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and Arabia. I was impressed the most by the Muslims of the Sudan. Their religious piety and hospitality are unmatched anywhere. I really felt at heaven and at home there." @@fe7264 Dear brother, Im talking about today's Nubia (Sudan) Not Kemet (Egypt). Sadat ancestprs were from today's Nubia (Sudan) who were captured and sold there in (Egypt) as slaves and nothing new here! Arabs were not allowed to settle in Nubia and for this reason there was a check point at the border and such tactic was brand new, learning from our mistake when we let the ancestors of today's "Egyptians" to come in as refugees, and immigrants with No passport or visa! as a result we Nubians there ended up bunch of guests in our own land! the same exact experince was repeadted in todays South Africa! Im telling you how there was No marriage of any kind between Arab invadors and Nubians for a very simple reason: like the anciet time, as a rule, you marry only your relative by blood in todays Nubia, but this is changing now! yes a sister used to merry her brother! we all know this. if this is true how on earth a Nubian will merry an Arab? for arabs it's impossible to see one of them as a rule, to marry a black women No matter what!! For this reason, recently, sadly a Sudanse who dared to marry an Arab laddy from "Qatar"was killed by her family members despite of Arab supposedly deep respect to today's Nubians!!!
