Күн бұрын

In the middle of 2018, my Grandpa passed away. Upon his passing, he turned over the farm to my Dad, my brother, and I. The farm consisted of a house, fields, buildings, and an unlimited supply of junk. After spending an entire summer cleaning the main floors on the house, I decided to tackle the basement. There was only one issue; the 1917 farm house’s basement has not been cleaned in over 40 years.

Cole The Cornstar, aka Cole, is a 4th generation family farmer from Central Iowa who is the life force behind his family’s 1,700 acre farm. Cole promotes agriculture by filming his day-to-day adventures with his Dad (Daddy Cornstar) and brother (Cooper) on the farm. With a lot of help from Daddy Cornstar, Cole instills humor and education into his videos fit for both young adults and adults. Despite being 22-years old, Cole has an old-fashion work ethic with an innovative approach toward agricultural technology and practices. Cole's mission is to prove the American Dream is not dead and be a megaphone for agricultural education and innovation, from technological advances in farming equipment to conservation practices.

If he thinks he's lazy, he really hasn't be around much. I've literally seen people so lazy that they will leave a TV going all night because they couldn't reach the remote to turn it off. I've seen people dirty a dish and then leave it in the sink until mold grows on it and longer. Ever seen stainless steel rust? If not, leave it in a sink of water for a few months along with food scraps and dirty dishes. I'm a tad lazy, but not that lazy, but Cole makes me look super lazy lol.

@@ValHeartNDHeartSuqquNoHeartPat Seems to me she would have hit the jack pot to be in a 100 year old mansion farm house. Lots of room to make and house babies. My family were all hillbilly, land owning farmers and they all had huge gardens. I'll never forget when I was outside my aunt betty sue's house early one morning back in the moutains and big fat Aunt Betty Sue came charging out the door screaming with a foot long butcher knife screaming and running towards her garden because one of her cows got in there. Scared the crap out of me.

Drylok holds the water in the foundation and will cause it to erode over time. Gotta start from the outside in. Dig back and tar the foundation filling any cracks making it water tight. install French drain at the base and back fill.

Should you ever move into a place where the bathtub or sinks are stained or just really dirty, just fill them with hot water and pour in 2 bottles of CLR (Calcium, lime and rust) go back in a couple of hours drain and rinse. Cole, I think "The Other Living Room" is actually called "The Parlor". A Parlor was located next to the front door. It is where the owner/resident would meet and entertain a guest without disturbing the privacy of the rest of the family. The parlor is where a young lady would meet her beau when he came over to court her. (Don't think that, this was the 1900's, a more innocent era.) It may have had a piano, sofa, table, chairs and probably one of the fireplaces. (Homes of that era usually had several fireplaces) You might think of it as a Public Living Room and the other is a Private/Family Living Room.

Hey buddy! love what you're doing to your house! I'm an interior designer, and you can definitely hide some of that stuff safely, like the furnace, boiler and fuse box. Even the funky floor can be hidden to some degree! I definitely would recommend some Kilz paint on the walls just to seal the cement (and brighten it up to help give you more light) and on the ceiling, maybe some drywall and decorative beams to kinda match the rest of the first floor. You're doing a great job! And thank heavens you have no plans to cover that original wood work!

Great job cleaning. You should consider taking the washer and dryer up to the second floor and turning one of the bedrooms into a laundry. That's where it all has to go anyway and it makes life so much easier. Just make sure to install a flood tray and monitor on the floor around the washer. I loved my second floor laundry!

I helped clean my grandmother's home in 1980. In late 2013, moved my mother to a nursing home and cleaned out her home. My greatest tool is a shredder. Out of 8 large boxes of paperwork, that came to Iowa with me, I have one left to finish. I'm no 22 year old with a cute, young girlfriend. 68. Alone. I don't want to leave my children a huge mess. But sometimes it happens. Just as you have talked about people passing away so eloquently, keep the lesson of your grandfather's mess in mind your whole life. Don't do that to your children or grandchildren. Give away, throw away.

I feel the same way. My current husband and I have been married 20 years. I am 85 now. In the time we have been married we have had the Privilege (?) of either cleaning or helping clean out about 6 houses. I am working on making sure my kids don't have to go through what we have. I throw something out every week. Even if it is just a piece of paper or old magazine. I have a bookcase that is full. If I get a new book, an old one has to go. Sometimes, it is very hard, then I think, what will my kids do? Once in awhile, one of the kids or grandkids will like something. Here it is sweetheart, take it home. NOOOO!! I just like it. Too bad, it is in your suitcase already.
