Views of early Hollywood, from 1905 before the movies began, and from 1918, show the lemon grove that became the Charlie Chaplin Studio. Charlie’s wistful and beautiful musical score “Five Years Later,” from The Kid, is the perfect accompaniment to this nostalgic look back at simpler times.

Stellar geolocation study of Chaplin’s craft and filmmaking genius! Bengtson is the “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” of the great silent talents. Bravissimo!!!

Some things were preserved and others were demolished or cut in half. I see they kept part of the dressing room.. it's just one of those things, that you'd wish was complete untouched, it's a bit upsetting. you can definitely see change. I love how you pointed each area out- great demographics.

I love walking past the studio as it stands now ... with the statue of Kermit the Frog dressed as the immortal Little Tramp. Don't go by it much anymore, but I did so a lot years ago.

John, I am a huge fan of your books. I visited the Red Skelton Museum today in Vincennes IN. The Chaplin signature and footprints are located there. (Pg 165 Silent Traces and time stamp 4:11 in this video). They say Red removed them when he owned the studio (1960-1962?). Is there any way to send you photos? For anyone visiting the Red Skelton museum, The footprints and signature are located in an adjacent building. Don’t miss seeing them if you visit. Also Red’s birthplace is located near the North West corner of the parking lot.

Continuing my comment - at time stamp 4:11 in the video. And in the enlarged photo in the book (next to the dedication page) shows 2 pairs of footprints. The 2nd pair is under the shoes. I took a copy of the vintage photo to the museum and saw the 2 pairs of footprints. I believe the modern photo (page 165 and right hand edge of this video) are different Chaplin footprints. In the modern photo, the heal of one of the shoes points away from the concrete joint. In the vintage photo the heals all point towards the joint. I think this proves I spend WAY to much time reading and studying your books 😉. Please continue your excellent work! I hope there are more books in the works.

@@justthefacts7975 Thank you so much for the info. Chaplin left footprints all over his studio sidewalk, shuffling along, which I photographed for page 165. But he only signed one set of prints, and Red kept them. My email is John @ silentechoes dot net

Hmm. Why the choice of using 1950s Brit song, Cara Mia as the opening theme for this?
