Interesting how there was a large gas-o-meter tank right next to the Pickford-Fairbanks studio. I had read a while back that the Chaplin Studio was moved farther in from the street in the late 1940s, when the street was widened.

Yes, the south end of the studio (projection room, Charlie's office) were physically moved east to accommodate the street widening. The north end buildings (laboratory, editing room), were not moved but trimmed flush to the new sidewalk, and are now narrower. The gas-o-meter next to PF Studio must have been frustrating for the stars, it limited the point of view camera angles when filming on the backlot.
