Someone dumped a pitbull just like him on my property a few years back. He was eating my outside cats food for 8 days until I finally caught up to him. He weighs 90 lbs though and bigger. He was drinking out of their water bowl when I spotted him and yelled, Hey what are you doing. He started walking away with his head down like he had lost his best friend. I followed him for an 1/8 mile before I got him to stop. He was limping, had asphalt on his butt like he had been pushed out of a vehicle. What stunned me was what looked like cigarette burns all over his back. 40-50 of them. When I went to pet him he started shaking and pooping. Took me a 1/2 hour to get him to come back to the house. Didn't think I'd be able to keep him. Once he settled down he wanted to kill the kittens on the property so I called the dog warden. She came and he became aggressive. Asked what would happen to him and she said they'd probably have to put him down. Couldn't let that happen. Told her I'd take my chances with him. 5 years later he sleeps with kittens now and I'm retired so he's my constant companion every where I go. I trust him with my life. God brought us together for a reason and I feel God also gave you a dog who needed you. God bless you for taking him in.

I just recently adopted a stray Pit/Boxer mix from my local shelter in Texas. I have two other dogs - a ridgeback/pit mix and a beagle mix. The ridgeback pit is such a sweet loving friendly dog. The beagle is an absolute psycho, he will fight everyone and isn’t afraid of my two pits. Meanwhile the 6 month old pit/boxer we adopted we were worried about aggression obviously we don’t know what he was living like as a stray. He has actually turned out to be the most sweetest dog I’ve ever known. He has no bad bone in him, just is very annoying haha and loves to play. I hope more people give stray dogs a chance! In hindsight based on his behavior and train ability I would’ve paid $2000 for him yet we got him for free because no one wanted him. Their loss and our gain!

Janine that is so true too! Most dogs are good judges of character. All of our German Shepherds have had this ability to see into a person's soul and tell us whether to trust that person or not. It's almost uncanny but it's true. The German Shepherd in my avatar photo was named Cheyenne. Goodness was she smart, fast and a seriously wicked fighter and not afraid of anything! We had her in the car with us one day when we pulled into a convenience store in Madison, Ohio. There was a guy who looked homeless but he was in a car that pulled in next to us and Cheyenne went ballistic instantly. I just figured it was because he looked really creepy, very disheveled and not well kept. So we went into the store and on the way back I got into the car and my wife started to get in when he came out of nowhere and held her car door open for a few seconds and wouldnt let her close it. Cheyenne leaped at him and I grabbed her tail just in time to keep her from full on attacking him. He let the door go and jumped inside his car and took off and we never saw him again. None of us were hurt, thank goodness and the threat was gone. I should have gone inside by myself but it just didn't dawn on me that the dude might actually be a threat to my wife, otherwise I would have told her to stay in the car with Cheyenne. She was incredible! One morning I was leaving for work and my was about to let her out to pee and one of my neighbors had a visitor who had a big rottweiller that came into my yard at a full out run towards me. I'm pretty much deaf so I had no clue the dog was even there until out of the blue Cheyenne grabbed that dog in mid air by the throat and pinned it to the ground! That big rottie was crying in serious pain while she had him! I know he didn't expect to get attacked by another 100 pound dog like that! I ended up getting an old broom handle and prying her mouth off of him and as soon as he was free he high tailed it home down the street! I thought I was gonna pee my pants right there too! But she was just absolutely fearless. Twice she chased black bears off of our property and once we had a young cougar on our roof a couple of nights in the summer (I think it was someone's pet that got loose) and she chased it away once as well! She was crazy bold. And several times after that she scared would - be dangerous men away from my wife late at night when my wife was driving home. But she knew instantly if you were a good person or not and she reacted on hand shakes as well. She was just that smart and it was like I said...she seemed to be able to peer right into your soul and tell immediately if you are a decent individual or if you are gonna pose a threat. Just an awesome dog. She's gone now but we still have 1 of her female pups and her mate so we are still blessed with her blood line.❤

@@DaniellaTousson Seventy years ago Belinda & Daniella, when I lived in a very small country town in the north west of New South Wales in Australia. This was the case, the dogs wandered around and slept and took their food as they found it. My brother and I had two dogs of our own, but when we went to clear out rabbit traps every morning and evening, we would find ourselves accompanied by up to a dozen dogs, who knew they would get a feed when we cleaned the rabbits. It worked. And the animals were rarely abused because they performed a service.

Our 2 most recent family additions where strays. Odie was a 4 month old Jack russell terrier/chihuahua mix who was dumped. When we took him to our vet for his check up--turned out he had parvo. For the want of a $15 vaccine--he needed nerly $1000 in medical care. That,his shots and being neutered came in at nearly $1500. He is now 3.5 a so very sweet. While Rosie a small white terrier is 9,nearly blind and has one tiny front leg. She was also dumped. Tho her medical costs where $700 less. It did take her a bit longer to feel at home. But she now jumps up on the sofa to lay next to me just like all the others. IF we had a larger income (retired) we would add to our family!

@Dayna Goodchild, in my 30 years of animal activism and nearly 60 years of living I have seen no evidence to convince me that animals are enough of a priority for that to happen. The real solution is for people like me and you to offer our services to get animals spayed and neutered to make it less easy to obtain and then discard or abuse animals. Our economy in the United States is falling apart and some people are getting more pets because of it. Makes no sense. So please help like I am and get them fixed.

@Dayna Goodchild, What you’ve done is not a waste of time at all. Feeling bad and doing nothing is. Passing laws are important but often you can get more done in other ways that are legal. Great work you are doing, this is a great place to educate when the subject is on peoples’ minds so I’m glad you are expressing yourself. I recommend reading the book Ethics Into Action, about animal activist Henry Spira, written by Peter Singer. Lots of insight on how to be effective for animals. Hope you read it. @Natalie Robinson but they did TRY to DITCH the dog, as you can read is what I SAID and as you can see is what the FIRST part of the video PROVES. You can't make FALSE NARRATIVES for what happened simply because something else happened a little later on. Acting like these are "inherently good" people IGNORES THE FACT they tried NOT to get involved in ANY way, initially. They went to quite an effort to avoid getting involved, actually. Or, do you just wander around with roast beef in your pocket?
@USMCCombatVet4TastyCrayons Жыл бұрын
@Natalie Robinson further proof they were indifferent, callous, and utterly tried to avoid getting involved (and the claim that they only took the dog in out of guilt for their crap behavior after the dog established a bond - Stockholm syndrome, anyone?).... The dog was ALREADY in their vehicle. They could have easily taken the animal to a shelter and the employees could have safely gotten the dog out of their vehicle for them AND it would have at least been off the streets. Again, the animal was ALREADY in their vehicle - which ANYONE that has genuinely cared about animals will tell you is not going to happen easily with most strays that RUN from people. So, they CLEARLY had tried to bail on this dog initially. This is a FACT shown by the same video we BOTH watched, but only I paid attention to.

Luckily she got on with our first dog and they were great friends. Some of the dogs we've had from rescue centres adapt so quickly, the two to adapt so quickly were a 12.5 year old staffie and a 6 month old Kelpie cross. The staffie and kelpie cross were cuddling up on the sofa with us the first night as if we'd had them for years. One of the dogs we had was a german shepherd, she took about 4 months to really settle in, she was a great house guarding dog, we ended up loving her to bits, took some time though.
