The first time I saw my dog at the shelter I knew she needed out, she just looked defeated and depressed. She had been through multiple homes so even taking her home she didn't get excited. Few days after I got her home she finally opened up and now she's my crazy little love bug. So if you're reading this and don't have a dog yet this is your sign, go get your best friend.

It's all about trust cat's are just the same as dogs when it comes to a new home. They will tread carefully and owners need to accept that thought. For starters you need a peaceful home declutter everything and start afresh. No screaming excitable kids loud TV or music blasting. This is the opportunity to bond. But a lot of people don't get the attention and basically give up. I've had several dogs over the years and they've all came from rescue shelters. They've had their ups and downs but pulled through (Takes Time) but the rewards will flood in 🐩🐕

It reminds me of when people talk about having to put their pet to sleep, but not wanting to be there. Being with your pet during those last moments is HUGE for them & can lower their fear/anxiety, people don't realize how scared they are in those situations. I've had those bittersweet moments more than I can count & it's always worth it to be there in the end with them, even if it hurts.
@michelcromwell3212 жыл бұрын
Also, when I have to euthanize a pet, I take my other pets with me. I put my deceased pet on the floor at the vet and let my other pets walk around him/her and they just know their friend is gone. Before I started doing that, my live pet at home would wander around looking for their friend, my cats would go from room to room crying for their friend, my dogs seeming depressed, lost. Also, I always go in and hold my pet that is being euthanized, telling them I love them over and over. It rips my heart out, but it's not about me at that time, it's about them. I just don't want them to be scared or alone. I also do the same with my old goats that have died, or had to be euthanized. I leave the deceased goat in the pasture before burying them to let the herd that has grown up together walk around their friend. They sniff at and walk around their friend and seem to realize their friend is dead, and adapt better. The hardest part of rescuing, raising and loving our companion animals, is end of life. I pray for mine and tell them they're going to their forever home, I love them, and will see them again...all the while crying like a baby. 😢

I do understand that sometimes people get under financial constraints or are basically forced in to housing that doesn't allow pets, or maybe they are a family member or friend of the dog's previous owner who passed. You can't view everyone who surrenders as heartless because you don't know the full story. However, for those who willingly go out of their way to adopt and raise a dog and then later decide it was too hard, I can't accept that. You shouldn't have made the decision to adopt or own a dog then. Period.

Now thats a Lie! Only those who's Sins are Forgiven inherit the Kingdom of God, because: Ecclesiastes 7:20 KJV: For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Luke 15:7 - I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. John 3:3 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 1:12 - But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Matthew 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Romans 3:23-26 KJV For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

I adopted my baby boy when he was 2 1/2 years old. The staff at that humane society absolutely lit up with joy when they found out that he was going to his forever home with my husband and I. Then staff then explained that he had been surrendered there twice. First time as a pup from Tennessee and the second time when this old lady had abused, (at the time) her adult daughter’s dog and forced her to give him up after she threw a shoe at him and he snapped his teeth at her as a warning. When I found him in that kennel, he looked like his spirit had been beaten down. He was very timid and shy when he came to the kennel door to greet me. He then sniffed my hand and went back to lay on his cot. However, the moment we brought him out for a private meet and greet he was sooo excited that his whole body was wiggling. He immediately grabbed a toy and started playing with everyone in the room. He stole my heart that day and ultimately, saved my life. I’ve struggled a lot with depression and had just been released after being hospitalized for a week. I knew he needed me to love him and he knew that I needed him as a companion to love me in return. Four years later, we are going on our first family vacation together. I’m so excited as it’ll also be his 6th birthday. I love him more than anything in the world and am grateful for each simple, little moment I have with him. Truly, he’s my best friend. Wish I could share a picture here but I guess it’s his story that counts. So blessed to have him as my baby. ❤❤❤

I volunteered at a shelter when I first retired and watching an animal get adopted is the best feeling you’ll ever have. This brought tears to my eyes. This guy is right about watching a dog watch his people walk away. The worst was when an owner died and the family didn’t want the animal. Usually that was the only home the dog or cat had ever had and they had NO idea why they were being left. Seeing that happen made me decide I would adopt senior dogs who had lost their owner. Last year I adopted two miniature dachshunds who were 17 and 18 yrs old. Every time I leave the house they’re sure I’m never coming back and it’s so sad to see that. They’re so excited when I return and I hope soon they will forget that terror of losing their former owner. I say all that to say Adopt from a shelter! And if you can, adopt a senior dog or cat. They still have a lot of love to give.

@Fotter No, you're 100% freaking right. People treat children and animals the same way. They want to take care of a cute little baby, but then get pissed at the responsibility of it depending on them or having its own needs the 2nd it grows up. The way we live and the system we live in feeds off of consumerism, and treating everything and everyone like an expendable item on the shelf. A lot of animals are even smarter than most toddlers (not punching down on kids). It's just that a lot of animals instinctually have their own way of life, so putting them in a man-made house, expecting them to live up to human standards while putting them in that situation is ridiculous. A lot of people really have the mindset that everything and everyone exists for their own entertainment and amusement. Trauma be damned.

Some people have to give up pet by choice, it’s not like they want to, it could be down to many reasons, the owner is no longer fit enough to look after the animal, the owner has died, or the owner doesn’t have time to care for the animal, people have lives and our lives come first, I have 2 pet dogs that have been in my family for a very long time, I’ve had them since pups and the oldest is 11, I’ve had multiple pet dogs over the years, and have all died living a happy and peaceful life, as a dog owner losing a pet is like losing a human being from your family or a friend

She was at the point of going to a foster but we adopted her instead. We’ve had her for 10 years now, she still doesn’t want to get in the car. I think she’s afraid of being dumped again. Once in the car she wants to sit right up on you. That’s a bit difficult as she’s 90 lbs now. Either a Belgian Malinios or a shepherd mix. She’s a adhd dog for sure. So true;.. a dogs instinct is to loyally serve their family, they are pack animals, and when you get a dog, you introduce them into your pack. If their family doesn’t want them, (they get ousted by the pack) they wonder what they didn’t do that they should have,or what they did wrong (a surrendered dog won’t think that maybe there’s another reason that their family left them)

Except that, here, the pets aren’t adopted that day. It’s the next day - "tomorrow". Animals have no concept of tomorrow. I don't know how they feel specifically, or what words they would use to describe it, but i know that when i most feel like god exists, is when i see something "magical" or "awe-inspiring" is happening, or if the events remind me of "miracles" or angels, etc. in this man's case in the video, he's making so many animals happy, he's just being his sweet ol' self and these animals lives are being made better for it. it's as if he was "supposed" to be there, it's as if he's where he's needed most and, wouldn't it be nice if god actually cared and had a say in how our world works? that kinda thing. The families/individuals that surrendered/abandoned/abused pets go to, are not necessarily “better” families/individuals imho! It’s too easy to stigmatize/demonize anyone who surrenders or abandons/abuses a pet. The same with children! I agree that for the animal or child, the experience is potentially harmful, hurtful, sometimes permanently damaging. And I think it is absolutely unequivocally unacceptable. But stigmatizing/demonizing has not yet helped to prevent this process. We live in a culture that does not think or act *preventively*! That’s what needs to change. And changing one’s own attitude, one’s own community, culture, is much harder work than simply judging, punishing, and rejecting someone who is an ongoing reflection of the culture.

Except that dogs have no concept of the words "on hold" and "tomorrow". Better to wait until the adopters are on-site and ready to take the dog. Getting the dog all excited about finally leaving, just to make a KZbin video, then crushing his spirit by walking away and leaving him in the cage for the night, is pretty cruel.

When I went to a dog shelter to meet what I thought was gonna be my first dog, I was greeted by this massive Unit of a dog (bullmastiff x) just coming back from a walk. After asking about him, he’d been there since he was 4 months old and was now 11, nearly 12 months……..He’d had not a single person interested in him due to his size. So I asked about the dog I had come to see and was told that dog had a list of people wanting to take him, but I was first in line. So I made the decision there and then, that I was taking the big dog with no interest at all. I made the right decision…..He was an amazing friend to me, he stopped a burglar who had broken into my house by pinning him to a chair and whenever I wasn’t feeling well, he’d lay in bed with me and put one of his front legs over me and fall asleep beside me snoring his head off. Sadly he passed away in 2018 from a rare inoperable cancer on his brain stem. He was diagnosed at 2 years old and I was told he’d be gone in less than a year……He passed away 3 weeks before his 9th birthday. I’ve been to a lot of funerals for friends and relatives and I’ve never cried…..When my dog passed, I broke down in the vets office and was a mess for months after. I eventually got another dog, who is absolutely mental……I just wish my big dog was here, as him and my new dog would have been very funny together. My new dog reminds me a lot of my first dog, because they have very similar personalities.

I got my bird companion the same way. He was a conure no one wanted because he was supposedly a biter. He had been there for months and it seemed he was never going to be picked. In the end he was just scared. Underneath he was the most beautiful kindest and most empathetic bird I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He would comfort me when I was sick or crying and he would dance with me when I was happy. Truly animals are amazing. Every one of them.

@tradde11 I swear to god people should get licenses or smething to have a dog. This sort of abandonment is ridiculous, and it's so much more serious where I am from. People just get a puppy and then trash them when they grow up, because their 'cute' puppy phase is over, or they are a burden. How the fuck can you not predict the sense of responsibility of having a dog, if you can't deal with it, which is quite obvious if you cannot, then don't get one and just go to a dog park every now and then instead of owning and abandoning one. It's so infuriating to see these poor doggos

@@Megadriver I volunteered because they wanted help for "cleaning" the cages(my 17 year old mind thought about dog and cat poop but sadly it wasn't). I saw so many dogs being surrender by families, thinking their pets would get a better home. And how I saw the workers put those healthy dogs with the sick dogs. That way they would have an excuse to euthanized all of them in one go,proclaiming all dogs were sick. How many people donate dog and cat food, and they sold them to other people. Those people...those monsters were only there for the paycheck.

My dog (a husky) was euthanized after being at a high kill shelter for a week. He was an escape artist and would always find a way to climb the fence to get out of the yard. We got him out the first time it happened. I suspect the neighbors took him to the pound both times because they told us where to find him. The second time it happened my parents couldn't afford to take him out and my 13 year old self had already spent all my money to take him out the first time. We figured we'd come back in a few days when my parents would have the money and if not maybe someone would adopt my sweet boy. But when we came back to get him they had said they euthanized him for aggression. My dog was not aggressive. I will never get over that and it was 10 years ago. I'll always hate those people. I changed my mind about wanting to be a veterinarian that day.

Not to twist the knife, but your comment reminded me of a post I saw, where a vet encouraged pet owners to be there for their pet if they have to be put down. Pet owners would leave the room, unable to deal with the emotion of their pet dying. But as the vet points out, you were the pet's whole world. And the last thing they should feel before the end shouldn't be confusion and fear, seeing their owner leave and being in a room full of strangers.
