A HOMEMADE DRILL GRINDING GAUGE STAND FOR CHECKING TAPERED & STRAIGHT SHANK DRILLS

See this excellent drill gauge stand. Used for checking a drills cutting edges are equal when re-grinding them. Although these types of grinding gauges were made and used many years ago for checking tapered- shank drills, I have made this one so that it can check very long, short, tapered or straight shank drills.

What a wonderful device Steve. Such a simple way to check the drills. I do have a very simple drill sharpening device, but I was never sure how accurate it was. This device would give me an easy to check them. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Nobby

We had one similar in our machine shop at the steel mill, it was a point at the base of a structural member, and the side of the beam got n occasional re-paint, elegant simplicity, nice video Steve, cheers!

Nice, I usually just eyeball the grinds meet somewhere near the centre - they don't stay sharp long enough drilling out steel/stainless enclosures to make much difference anyway!

Hey steve i dont know how to sharpen my drill bits and i end up buying new ones can you make a video or recommend an item to sharpen them?

If you make a fitting with an inverted cone or divot you don't need to put a centre in your drill bits
