I love this style of video, Patty! The tea talk really spoke to me. I’m an empty nester (somewhat because I have my 9 year old granddaughter with me). We have a large house that is way to big for the three of us. I find that we seem to collect stuff because we have so much room but we don’t use everything and it’s too much to keep clean. I want to get rid of things but then the house feels empty! Thank you for sharing your day! 😊
@LemonsandLarkspur9 ай бұрын
That’s one I’ve never thought of. It’s like when you first take down the Christmas decor, the house always feels so bare. I would maybe try to pare down one room and live with it for a month. See if you feel comfortable with less stuff. You might be surprised. I find the older I get the more cluttered my mind is and having less material things helps calm my mind. Bless you for taking in your grandchild. She is so lucky to have you.💕

Since New Year I have cleaned up all my wardrobes and most cupboards. I also felt I needed to give my favourite op shop as much as I could. I find clothes a hard one. I have to keep going back to my wardrobe to check again. I did this 3 times and it seems to have worked 😂 I have previously cleaned out my materialls. I do have enough to do one more quilt. Not sure if I will end up doing it or not. Hoping next Winter, for me, that I will get it sewn. My ornaments I think I will wrap and deal with when we downsize. I'd hate to part with any and then regret it. I have always felt overwealmed when the clutter starts to accumulate. I think the time to leave our big home and garden is getting very close.
@LemonsandLarkspur9 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing. I went through my clothes as well. I’ve been hanging on to things that I never wear so I made a trip to the local thrift store with them. I also put away my warm season clothes in a bin and put them up high in the closet. It feels good to only see what I actually wear hanging in my closet. I am not a sentimental decorator at the holidays. I only have a handful of meaningful ornaments so it’s easy for me to let my daughters have what I no longer use. I understand how hard it is to leave a home full of memories. Trust your heart to know when the time is right. 💕

Seeing this made me so happy! You are one of the channels that inspired me to start uploading myself. Thank you, and be blessed! I hope to see more from you in the futute 🤗💗 edit: I am a big decorator, so I have a LOT of decor at any given time. I don't hesitate to donate things back to the thrift when I don't want to use them anymore, but absolutely those times where things are piled up can be so overwhelming!! Our environment really does affect how peaceful or chaotic we feel on the inside.
@LemonsandLarkspur9 ай бұрын
Yes! Clutter affects my mood and my creativity. I imagine you must be organized with your decor items. I always forget I have things or have them stored in such a haphazard way that it’s too much fuss to retrieve them! Do you have a closet designated for them?

Lovely video Patty. The music is so relaxing. I have a lot of "treasures" in my home, and tons in the garage that I rotate in. It's all becoming too much. Paring down is slowly happening. We have a fairly large home so I have room. I do tend to put out too much though - and then it makes me nervous. I put up Valentine's Day a few days ago and I am ready to take it down already. Just too much stimulation, I think. I take a bag or two to the local thrift store every week or so. I actually have my husband drop it off so that I don't shop! Thank you for sharing your sweet home and gardens with me!
@LemonsandLarkspur9 ай бұрын
That’s so funny and true about the lure of the thrift store when you’re donating. I put up Valentines in January last year and grew tired of it before Valentines Date as well. I will put out a few things in February 1st to enjoy for a few weeks. Thank you for joining the conversation my friend!

Hi Patty! I’m so happy to see you back making videos again. I’m retired now in the Philippines and we took 35 huge boxes of our stuff from California. I got so stressed out and overwhelmed unpacking everything. I decided to give away the stuff that doesn’t bring me joy anymore. I just can’t let go of my Pioneer woman collections and all my crafting supplies😊. I love your home and garden it’s beautiful and cozy. Looking forward to your next video. Take care ❤

Thanks for the video today. I don't watch the gardening, because I live in the northeast and our seasons are so different. My struggle is feeling at home in things not put away. I am your age, but I have four young adults at home, because we had kids late. They work and are in college, so I can't complain too much. When one gets rid of things it is a weight gone. Personally, I must go slowly to purge and be sure, but rarely do I miss things or think I could use them. Many blessings in 2024.
@LemonsandLarkspur9 ай бұрын
I have a teenage grandson that stays with me a few days a week so I still struggle with balancing his things and a tidy house. I find that if I don’t make quick decisions then I don’t purge. And yes, I’ve regretted a few things I gave away but I think the feeling g if less clutter out weighs the loss. Thanks for chatting with me.

Welcome back! I retired last August and the first thing then was to pare down my wardrobe, donating what I knew I wouldn't wear casually. We live in the home where I grew up so I'm gradually getting rid of some of my parents' things that are not really heirlooms. It sure isn't easy, but so necessary for our mental and physical wellbeing. Heres my encouragement for you to keep going!

I don’t know what is about after Christmas and the NY but I always scale down and leave things uncluttered. I love the Christmas decor but come January I’m ready for a clean simple look. I’m not a winter or spring decorator but I do enjoy fall and Christmas decor. There is something nice about being in the home in winter with what seems like less to do. I really look forward to this just as I do all seasons and what it brings.

Hi Patty, enjoy your videos very much. I'm with you and feel the exact same regarding a cluttered house and overwhelmed with people during the holidays. I look forward to seeing everyone during the Christmas holidays but by the time it's over my nerves and patience are a bit frazzled. I think as I get older (I'm 71), I don't have the stamina, endurance, patience with grandchildren messing up my home, cooking all the time, buying gifts for so many, that I had only a few years ago. I, of course, love my children and grands and always begin looking forward to the next years holidays. Since the first of the year I have sent quite a few bags of stuff to the thrift stores. Do I really need 20 wine glasses, a drawer over-stuffed with dish towels, etc., etc.? I love "things" but not having as many feels quite freeing. Thank you for tea time and your chats. love love 🥰
@LemonsandLarkspur9 ай бұрын
Thank you Vickie. We are on the same page. I used to entertain large groups and had dozens and dozens of cloth napkins in different colors. I had my grandson make me a pile of 10 white, 10 cream and 10 red. I put the rest in a bag and donated them. Speaking of not having the patience or stamina to host gatherings, I’m with you there as well. It’s time to pass the torch but it’s hard. Thank you for joining in on the conversation.
@vickieatkins47609 ай бұрын
@@LemonsandLarkspur Patty, I didn't exactly voluntarily pass the torch, it was sort of taken from me. My 3 daughters all have larger houses now so they do the entertaining. Sorta glad, but miss the "good old times" at my home. 😌

Have you read Marie Kondo’s book, the life changing magic of tidying up? It helped me pare down soooooo much! I’m not a minimalist but, it helps me think before I replace stuff. I have a long story about moving and decluttering, over and over. It is less of a problem each time, because, I am learning what I really love.

The hardest thing for me to purge is pictures that I once had hanging on the walls, but aren’t necessarily my style anymore. For some reason, if someone gave them to me, I can’t part with them! I keep thinking of the cottages now where people have eclectic galleries on a wall and I would love to do that with all the random pictures.
