Honestly it feels like wasted potential since they didn't even give you any kind of control at the end of the game with siding with them. Aside from some goofy choice that's narrowed down to 2 options that literally have zero impact on the game. Also kinda weird how when siding with the brotherhood that they don't instead just kill everyone in the institute and keep all the technology they have in there.

@@SwiftBolt17 possibly but given the amount and kinds of technology they've acquired and possess, you'd at least think they'd try to at least salvage something from it all. I mean think of the tactical advantages of being able to use the molecular relay and teleport troops into just about anywhere. Or their advanced research into weapons and armor, or even methods of feeding their troops through all the info in bioscience. Then again aside from the institute, there literally isn't any other faction that remotely poses a threat to the brotherhood so maybe they see all of that as unnecessary to hold on to. Who knows, but it definitely is something interesting to think about.

Some people in the Institute are straight up dumb. Higgs talked about how Nate would be hated if the people starving out the Institute were to be forcibly removed. For someone who works in BioScience, he doesn't seem to understand how people work. Starve them out and they'll hate you. Heck, they've already drawn ire because they're threatening the food supply. Even if they got their way, they would inevitably be punished severely by exile or execution. It's not Nate who is in a lose-lose situation, it's Higgs and Loken. Dumb.

Their faction makes sense from a "the greater good" mentality. The fallout universe is better for the institutes continued existence, all they need is a good leader and they could absolutely transform the commonwealth. I see the 4 factions of fallout 4 as this: The Railroad ---> Mr House A tiny faction with unusual amounts of power do to there methods. A poor choice for long term stability. The Minutemen ---> The NCR A strong military not ruling the people, but guarding them. They get a 'A'. The Brotherhood ---> Caesars Legion The clear 'bad' option. Rule with an iron fist. Genocidal ideals. No goal but violence. The Institute is Yes Man Same methods as railroad/house but better. No morals as by the endgame Father/House is dead. Your character truly shapes the faction. Also on my first playthrough I RPed as a devoted father, there's that as well.

I do not think so. I think he became authoritarian because that is literally all he knows in life. He grew up as basically a test subject in the Institute. And while it seems that the scientists did take good care of his as a child, they were not his parents. He never had real parents to pass their values on to him, and so he had to resort to figuring the world out on his own. He is even aware of it himself. He hints at it during the conversation on the CIT roof.

I think differently. I think the Sole Survivor could make a very good director. Shaun's line about "The Institute has enough scientists" rings correct in my book. The director's position isn't about being a scientist or leading research. Its about managing people and resources. All the department heads are so self-involved and obsessed with their own work and own department, I doubt any of them could lead the Institute as a whole without showing favoritism to their own former department. As an outsider, the Sole Survivor is in a good position to dispassionately and objectively manage friction between the departments. And none can question his decisions based on a perceived bias towards any given department.

Well you can reverse pickpocket them like a grenade… a “live caltrop” and it’ll silently kill an enemy 🤣🤣 it doesn’t work with the bear traps, but the caltrops work. And it’s so funny. And actually practical for a stealth build. Not very immersive, but they’re so cheap to craft that it’s a really good tool to use for stealth. The enemy will react to the live caltrop, but it doesn’t explode or anything, so he just kinda keels over 🤣

While we’re on the subject of the gorillas, I wanted to ask - has anyone ever been one shot by them? I remember I once had an Uber strong character, wore the best power armor you can get. I’d reached a point where I could tank mini nukes and not even faze me, and then one of these gorillas killed me in one punch.

to bad theres not a choice to replace them with syths to be more complacence. we could still keep all that knowledge and do what the Institute is already doing , im sure everyone will be on board , especially when they don't know ;3

@Oxhorn in my first playthrough i played everything til it came to the next quest, despite me betraying them X6-88 loved my charaiso much i even could use him as a companion after blowing up the institute... i am curious if this was a bug? Oh the bigoted Institute scientist. Personal rights, we blah blah blah as long your not from the surface. Did they talk to every victim they captured on the surface? I suspect not but that's only human right. To declare someone different and being okay with sacrificing them...

to play Devil's advocate here, fighting and chaos isn't unique to democracy, there's a reason that rebellions more often then not end up just replacing the tyrant they over throw, what makes democracy works is that they already have rules in place for the "fighting" and they fail when people break those rules. I mean the US had colonial governments and such in place before our revolution and we still had a failed national goverment and nearly suffered a military rebellion before getting things right.

I never understood why when we took over the Institute, why couldn’t we use this tech and synths to help the commonwealth and have a story and quest like tied to being the director such a massive opportunity missed by the devs
@senhowler
@senhowler Жыл бұрын
Because the entire point of the Institute is the utter contempt they have for the Commonwealth. A quest where everyone just changes their minds completely wouldn't make much sense.

Bethesda being Bethesda, there were so many missed opportunities, but yeah, an ending with the Minutemen and the Institute had so many possibilities, taking over factories with the Minutemen, using Gen 1s for farming or as cheap labor to build shit using said factories, like every day tools, appliances, military hardware, idk, make the Institute a force for good, slowly bringing the underground eggheads out of their cave, so much they could have done.
@MildsandThatYac
@MildsandThatYac Жыл бұрын
@@senhowler it would make sense seeing that you spoke to the entire commonwealth with the script that Father gave you depending on what you say father will have a different dialogue. Hell in my play through I’ve seen gen 1 synths in Daimond city and no one was alarmed. Plus Daimond city knows the sole survivor and you now being the leader of the institute it would further back this up
@senhowler
@senhowler Жыл бұрын
@@MildsandThatYac It would be getting the people in the Institute to cooperate that would be the problem. No matter how much you may be "in charge" just telling a bunch of prejudiced idiots to stop being prejudiced idiots isn't likely to work.

@@xxvaltielxx1789 A big one is a true Lone Wanderer route for destroying the Institute(or BOS). No help from the other factions. The goal is to pretend to join the factions and the quests are to slowly sabotage things while sowing division among the ranks. By the end it's too late. You destroy the BOS ship and manage to nuke the Institute. The Commonwealth doesn't know what happened but many suspect the Sole Survivor.

I just watched last night that video on the vault in the Mojave where elections were held for overseer/sacrifice. I understand that Shawn's decision might have been rushed and influenced by his health issues, but it surprises me how this measure of withholding food is selfish. Let's say that the lone survivor decides to mobilize Synths and retrieve from the wasteland food supplies. After this and with some diplomacy, asks the scientists if they can come up with a way that these supplies can be treated against radiation and meet the Institute's food standards for consumption. This would prove that this takeover was baseless, as a foreigner like the sole survivor came up with a solution that generated new technology, despite the fact that the sole survivor lacks any scientific training. But tying with the beginning of my post, there's no worth of disguising individual points of view as "greater good" for the community, because these actions tend to be mere projections of the ones who proposed them, but always manage to silence the opinions of the ones affected by these choices.

I'd like you to try and understand my idea and hear others opinions, maybe a short video for you but I'd really like to hear oxhorn's opinion I love your videos, just finished the whole playlist of new Vegas and now watching 4, but had to comment a cool thought a what if, the BOS want to preserve technology, BUT they won't share it. I think quite a nice idea if a splinter group may appear at some point who has found a way of helping those by using the technology they've found and research they've done, gaining trust and being able to further their cause with having helped and gained reputation in that area atleast people could let them or more kindly convince them to borrow to research on. Maybe set earlier or a more closed of place where the map is.

I think tough but fair but there have to be limits and when they put everybody in danger and risk everybodys life is to far and must made sure its NOT acceptable and they must be made an example of.

This is perhaps one of the worse quests in fallout 4. You get a random conflict with two random loonies who locked the bioscience room? Alright let's use an admin code to override their permissions? No we have use a maintenance tunnel. Then there's the dialogue tree. Nate hardly sounds convincing or give those two anything to vouch for. Father picked Nate as successor beyond just being their parent, but the rough experience of surviving in the wasteland. A trait he COULD use to convince them...

i disagree with the framing of democracy vs authoritarianism during the discussion with Higgs. AFAIK there is nothing that indicates a succession would be remotely democratic. It could just be Justin Ayo using coursers to gain the position by force. This is more so akin to a Byzantine succession crisis than anything else.
