@ann2155 I remember those winters. I survived some pretty brutal ones in The North Country. First time I experienced -65°F wind chills, and some days that the high was like -20°F. My last winter in NY was on the east side of the state, and we got had over 14 feet for the winter. I had enough of that, I was tired of trying to stay warm. I fled to the south, 😂. Been here 30 years, and this storm that just came through on Sunday night reminded me of why I left... Came to work Monday, and been trapped here at work since then. The road is impassable at the moment to my house. Pray for us in East Tennessee. This is the first major snow and ice event in almost 30 years. We don't have the equipment necessary to plow any secondary or backroads... Many are worse off than me. Some are in motels because their power went out. Thank God as a truck driver, I always try to be prepared for anything... NY trained me well... Snug and safe in my 2nd home: my semi... hoping for warmer weather, and melting snow and ice.

My 8 year old son has strangely been fascinated with natural disasters and violent weather for a few years. He loves tornadoes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tsunamis and has been them all for Halloween with matching birthday cakes- ha! We found out a few months ago that he has Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, which means he will probably be in a wheel chair in the near future (along with some other not so great stuff). But we learned that lots of boys with it are able to do tech/ online jobs from home. He asked the other day if he could be a KZbinr when he grows up and his sister was trying to explain that for it to be your job you need to have people watch your content and content they like. I was thinking to myself that it isn’t very likely, but as I was watching this it just clicked that this is something he could do! Sharing the science behind weather and explaining what is most likely to happen based off of it can totally be done in a wheelchair from your house. So if you ever retire or need an extra station in South Dakota he’s your guy! I’ve been following you for a little over a year and love how accurate and informative your reporting is. I trust what you say over both of my weather apps. I’ve been waiting to see your report on this next week as we will be traveling 6 1/2 hours for a doctor appointment and now I feel so much more prepared. So it might sound silly but thanks for all you do! From sharing your weather predictions, keeping us safe and prepared, and reporting on weather situations, to helping in the aftermath of disasters, but also thank you for being an inspiration for people of all ages fascinated with the weather, it is very much appreciated! P.S. Congrats to you and your wife on the new baby!!!

What a lovely comment! 8 is young to be planning a life course, but that's not the point, the point is it opened your eyes to possibilities, which you needed to stay strong and optimistic about your son's future. I just came in after clearing off my car... and I finally got a chance to use my Y'All-O-Meter! The first 6-1/2 inches of it disappeared quickly into the white stuff, and this is after (according to some TV newscasters) well over *seven* *hundred* *days* without any real snow accumulations in the area. Also, now that I've finished a lot of shoveling (sidewalk, stairs, community mailbox, car -- all with two very arthritic hips) I just got notification that there's a snow squall approaching that may drop another full inch on us... along with the ongoing light, fluttery stuff that's already completely whitened all the surfaces I cleared less than an hour ago.
