Dickey Betts on lead guitar here. Chuck Leavell on piano stepped in after Duane's death and provided a new dimension to the band. He was a great session musician and jazz pianist who formed his own band Sea Leavell after the Allman Brothers first broke up in the late 70's. Their first album Sea Leavell: Cats on the Coast was an absolutely phenomenal piece of jazz heavily influenced by Southern Rock. More than a decade later Chuck would step in to lend his talents to The Black Crowes on their highly regarded debut Shake Your Moneymaker. Cats on the Coast is definitely worth a listen. Allman Brothers alumnus Jai Johanny Johnson was percussionist for the band.

@@tracyyork1428Dickey did not fire Chuck Leavell (the piano player). He loved Chuck’s playing. This era of the band gradually fell apart in the next couple of years after this was recorded, for a variety of reasons: drugs, too much money and fame, competing egos, Gregg’s move to LA and marriage to Cher, and Gregg’s testimony in the drug trial of Scooter Herring (one of their tour guys). Basically they were all tired of one another and mutually decided to move on with their own projects. When the Allmans reformed in late 1978 they invited Chuck to join the band again, but by then he had his own band Sea Level and decided to stick with that.

The Allman Brothers played with two drummers and two world class lead guitarists. They were and remain the greatest. And guys you’re right. This is the Blues side of Southern Rock. ♥️♥️♥️ Also FYI, Dickey Betts sang lead a couple times I think. I know he wrote and sang Ramblin’ Man.

@truckerkevthepaidtourist2 жыл бұрын
Well you're totally wrong on this whole thing Bill He wasn't playing the piano here He was playing the organ and vocals that was the great Chuck Levell who came on board for this album after Duane died. He was with a southern rock band called sea level and you can also find the great Chuck as the musical director of The rolling Stones for the past 20 plus years Duane had been dead he didn't play any guitar on here at all. Bassist brother Barry Oakley Was Heard on a couple of the tracks unfortunately he checked out too not one year after Duane When they made the decision to reconvene and keep the band going after the loss of two key members the reason they brought in the great Chuck Levell was so dicky could shield some of the load and not have such the burden on top of them as trying to do Duane's kind of stuff along with his kind of stuff. So that's why you notice on this album there's a lot of piano driven solo stuff through it that's what Chuck was brought in to do One of the other things you'll notice to on rambling Man The duel guitars another friend the great Les Dudek was also brought in by Tom dowd the producer to help Dicky on some dual guitar kind of jams. Many of course no less because he also appeared on eat a peach Les Bres in a minor
