Was in a small club in Columbia, SC, late 60s, early 70s, the Allmans were doing a concert in town. Sometime after 11:30 PM, Duane, Gregg and Jaimoe walked in. The band stopped and the three played for 11/2 hours. Good times. Peace out.

I have seen them 5 times as well including a show from their farewell run at the Beacon Theater. Love the original lineup, but Duane and Berry passed when I was about 14 so I never got to see this lineup. Much as I love Dickey Betts, their last lineup of Greg Allman, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe from the originals along with Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge was just effing brilliant!

“Melissa” is off this album. It has a laid back, Country/southern rock feel to it as well. “Little Martha” is a solo acoustic piece by Duane that only clocks in at about 2 minutes, so it might not be reviewable, but definitely give it a listen. Finally, “Jessica” is off their next album. It’s an instrumental, but very much has that Dickey Betts sense of melody that “Blue Sky” has.

It is actually two solos. First up is Duane, he starts his solo at 2:21 of your video. Then at 3:44, Dickey Betts rejoins and the two play a harmonized bridge which transitions to Dickey’s solo at 3:54. At 6:45, you hear Duane rejoin Dickey for the outro to the solos, which then goes back to the vocals. BTW, when you listen to this, Duane is to the Left in the mix and Dickey to the Right. You are hearing two of greatest pair of guitarists working together! So glad you did this. Sorry it took so long for me to find you guys.

As a teenager, my Dad and I had a music store, we'd have an open jam on Tuesday and Thursday nights, Scooter Almon, Greg's cousin, who toured with them a few times playing guitar, bought the Hammond B3 organ that Greg played on this album, after it fell off the back of the truck. He had it fixed and set it up in our shop and I got to do some rewiring on it and the Leslie speaker cabinet. Scooter would play it and sing at the weekly jams. I used to love playing bass and jamming with musicians far better than me. I loved playing this song with Scooter singing and playing that killer B3. This were good days. I'd give anything to go back and do it once more.

After looking at some comments I guess I'm not the only one who thinks of this as a 'driving in my car on a sunny day' song. I was driving down Hines Drive one late spring day MANY years ago when this song came on the radio. It was one of those perfect spring days, warm and sunny, windows down, trees and bushes blooming, the trees with that fresh, almost fluorescent green color to them. And I was in musical and seasonal heaven for about five minutes. Such a great memory. This is one of my all-time favorite guitar solos, just perfection. So melodic, with those duets interspersed with Duane and Dicky soloing. It doesn't get much better. Hines Drive winds through Hines Park (not far from Detroit) for about 17 miles. All the way from Dearborn to Northville on either side the road has open, grassy areas, picnic areas big and small, baseball diamonds, a dog park, little exercise areas, and a bike/walking path running through most of it. It used to be a huge partying spot in the 60's and 70's and into the 80's but eventually that ended. If you drove down Hines Drive on a Friday or Saturday night, almost anywhere along most of the 17 miles, it would be jammed with people pulled over and partying, hanging out, listening to or playing music, playing frisbee,...., something that is unimaginable to anyone who wasn't around back in those days. Oh the memories!

Duane is on this entire album, but it was released after he died. All the slide guitar work on this album is done by him

Nope, not on the side that contains "Ain't Wasting Time No More", "Les Bres in A-minor", and "Melissa". That was the Duane-less version of the band.

Actually Duane Allman played on most of the tracks on Eat A Peach including Blue Sky as it was mostly recorded before his untimely death. In fact there is a track called Little Martha that he wrote and recorded on this album. Blue Sky happens to be one of my most favorite songs of all time. In fact it is assigned as my wife's ring tone on my phone as she is my Blue Sky!

Eat a Peach was released after Duane’s death, and it was dedicated to him. But, it is a collection of many of the last songs he played with the Brothers!

Dickie wrote this about his wife Sandy Bluesky not sure her last name she was a Native American! They were only married a couple years! That is Duane playing the first solo With Dickie coming in to do the second solo, Dickie wanted Greg Allman to sing this but Duane talked him telling him this is your song you need to sing it!😊

The Allman Brothers Band were absolute masters at having two guitars play solos in harmony, like at 3:43 and 6:50. Such a unique and fantastic sound.

The back to back solos are the 2nd and 3rd verses. Dickey and Duane's best work. This song changed my life.

Dickey Betts was so good at these happy, upbeat melodic masterpieces...I can almost hear those guitars laughing! Such a joyous tune!

Got a ticket to this song. 85 in a 70. Didn't even realize I was going that fast until the heat popped me. I was in my own world jamming to this song

True that Eat A Peach was released after Duane's death, but he is one of the guitarists on all but three of the songs. Duane plays the first minute or so of the guitar solo on Blue Sky, followed by both him and Betts playing off each other....then lastly by Betts solol.

I’ve been listening to the Allman Brothers since mid 70s when I was stationed in Germany at all her albums and they still sound great today. I actually work in Jacksonville at the airport and I’ve met Gregg Allman a few years ago. Just a wonderful guy.

The spiritual successor to Allman Brothers Band are the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek Trucks played in the Allman Bros the final 10 years or so and took the bass player Oteil Burbridge with him to the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Cheers 🍄

The Allman Bros Band were so damn special! I never got to see the band but did get to see Gregg before he passed. That line about the river just keeps on flowing and not worrying about where it's going is how I have lived most of my life. Music like this has always been my refuge from life, my sanctuary. I wish you both blue skies and sunny days!

Can't remember which Allman Bros songs you guys have already done, so I'm just going to name two of my other favorites from Eat A Peach: "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" (a great song about living every day to the fullest), and "Melissa" (one of the most beautiful ballads ever).

Finally, "Blue Sky"!🤗🌞🌻 Consistently rated among the top guitar solos of "all time". When people think of guitar solos, they generally tend to think about the speed and dexterity of the guitarists finger but rarely think of the melodic factor (November Rain, anyone?). This is a melodic guitar solo that just steals your soul and takes you on a walk down a road alongside a peaceful river on a bright, sunny, day. The lyrics that describe the river in this song (to me) are reminiscent of Ray Charles'- Old Man River which uses similar descriptive words.😉 Peace and love🕊❤

Favorite band back in the day. Wore out my Live at the Fillmore East double LP listening to Whipping Post and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. However for another great song on Eat A Peach check out the song "Melissa". You won't be disappointed.
