Having moved for a third time in Japan I knew what I wanted. No one above me, a studio space to be creative, and a list of other fine additions to what I had previously. Although this apartment may not be perfect, it's a step in that direction.

I'm not sure how to explain it, but there's something so "homey" and comforting about Dave's videos. I think it has to do with the way he shoots them.
@DaveTrippin

Cheers Brian. Appreciate that. Wish I could say there was something I put into this with particular care for an eye to the cinematography, truth is, there was really not. That said, I think after you film for as many years as I have now that inevitably some part of you unique self is imprinted into the video. Thanks again for watching and the kind words.

Dave, thanks so much for this video. It's nice to see you getting settled in well and also validating the convenience of how one can live on the outskirts of the city and still get the beauty of the country. I myself love trees especially coming from the south but I love what culture/art the city has. Thanks man.
@DaveTrippin

Hey Trey. Cheers ya thanks man. There's not reason, if you look, that you can't have it all. I'd even be happy in a downtown setting but I was born and raised in the countryside and nature and have always laughed when people insist, often to the detriment of their quality of life in living in one specific place or another. Focus to hard and you miss all the beauty that surrounds.

Hey Dave, thanks for another update! Having that 3rd apartment helps build up a rough idea of the "average" as opposed to the "ideal", so thanks a bunch for that! Now that you've been in Japan for a while and have a bit more insight into the real-life impact, I was wondering if the additional "job support" that many language schools offer are actually notable. (if you've heard of people getting started that way) I'm working on learning the language here, and plan to get certified to teach abroad while I'm living in the States, but I'm concerned that I might find it difficult to find a beginning position even after moving to Japan. The idea has come up of going to a language school (to test how well I actually know the language, but also for the job support they advertise). Any experience you have on if that alone is as effective as they make it sound? I'm just worried it'd be like a temp agency where they'd help me find a job, but just a garbage one with no help to my resume/experience.
@DaveTrippin
@DaveTrippin 4 жыл бұрын
One word my friend. Relax. Once the world stops being crazy (although that may take some months) there are tons of entry level jobs. Ones which you will transcend quickly if you look beyond them once you arrive. As for the language of course pursue that with purpose and focus. But don't needlessly worry that how you are performing in that would any way hinder you progress.

Thanks so much for showing the toilet. I'm currently a college student and am planning on studying abroad in Kobe this next academic year (assuming the coronovirus situation doesn't get worse). I have started toying with the idea of possibly teaching English as a summer job, but I haven't researched it just yet. Do you know if there are any possibilities for a college student to do something like that for a few months?
@DaveTrippin

On a student visa you still qualify to work for a minimal number of hours. You could certainly do some tutoring to make yourself some cash.

For 65000 yen that's a really great deal! With that space and good access to the town! I am currently living in the notorious Leopalace, and am considering moving out. Did you find any difficulty in looking for an apartment as a foreigner?

I did yes. Several places rejected me specifically for being one. But eventually I found a place.

Any experience with renting with pets in Japan? I'm dipping my toes into the logistics of moving my family and pets to Japan. We're curious if we should buy a home/apartment or if renting is still an option for us.
@shingetsu10
@shingetsu10 4 жыл бұрын
Renting is an option, but your options are far more limited, and you might expect to pay a little more rent. If you have small/discrete pets (hamster et al), I'd advise keeping it on a don't ask don't tell basis.

I've weirdly heard it's easier to get a place if you have a dog than if you have a cat in Japan. Rachel and Jun from Rachel and Jun's Adventures mention this and that finding places that accept their three kitties can be hard. Which is a complete opposite from here in the west where a thousand places will accept a cat but a dog over 10 lbs is always banned (meaning teacup, yapyap dogs, lol. I want to adopt a pitbull one day so these restrictions are making that hope vanish pretty hard in America).

Don't mention the city for privacy work and professional reasons. But it is as well not a Leopalace ;p I'd imagine perhaps the walls made you think that as it often that material that gets used in many Japanese homes. Thanks for watching Chad! best to you in this dangerous time. Stay safe.

In Fujinomiya, I know someone renting a 600$ apartment bigger than the first floor but has no second floor. She said that it would cost 100k+ yen if it’s in Tokyo. So I’m gonna be honest here, the place is worth it and I would definitely pay 650$ to live in an apartment like yours or hers. The only downside is you don’t own a house when renting.
@DaveTrippin
@DaveTrippin 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. I would love to own my place. I do dream one day of getting that. But all in good time when it's so special the choice must not be rushed.
