Thank you for this video. My facination with the OED began with "The Professor and the Madman", which led to the purchase of my first set of the Dictionary, printed in 13 volumes plus the 4 supplimental volumes reprinted back in 1970.

Do you think in the OED, editors over-quoted Agatha Christie ?

WOW !! I've been listening to Simon Winchester's audiobooks about the OED and about Dr Minor ... but I've always been fascinated by this work. Fantastic that you found the entire original edition for that amount !! COOL !

My local university library has a shelf of unwanted books that you could purchase. You would put $1 in a little tip jar if it was paperback or $2 if it was hardcover. A few months ago I went in and saw a full oed set from 1961. They weren't in the best condition but $2 per volume is an unthinkable deal. I didn't pick it up unfortunately as I have no space for storage and felt guilty hogging them, but it will never not haunt me.

Sweet beautiful Sobek, what a find!! If I were you, I would hang onto that forever, I would be cremated with it and scattered over the Bodleian Library. BUT … if you ever want to unload that, for whatever reason, please reply to this comment and I’ll share my contact deets and we’ll reach and agreement and I’ll pay you a better-than-fair price. Thanks for having uploaded this!

It is quite apalling how the English World possesses a great book like the OED and yet people do not buy it ! I live in Morocco we have something more fascinating, as Lexicography in Arabic is a bit old and there are tens of huge ancient dictionaries. Here is my advice: buy the biggest dictionary you can, regardless of your language!
@Orpheuslament5 ай бұрын
@@Thewayfarer970 Couldn't agree more - it's unfortunate the dearth of Arabic works in English translation but I have been slowly working my way through what is available. Very jealous to those who can read the original.
