That's the thing about Flash. Superman's got a sort of general kindness and goodness to him, he works on such a scale that it's not unreasonable that everyone gets the same treatment... but Flash, Flash will call you by name, complement your shirt, ask you how your day has been and actually listen. He goes out of his way to make things personal, and I think that's why even his villains love him, and that's something that Superman can't do that he can.

It’s my head-canon that one of two things happened with Batman in this episode: 1) He entered the Monitor Room in the Watchtower to begin his watch only to find a pile of gifts left for him by every member of the League in the seat by the monitors. Alternatively, he found a note left by Superman with clues on how to find gifts in various spots in the tower from every member of the League. Batman, while annoyed at first by either gesture, is nonetheless touched by the inherent kindness in his teammates, knowing that they truly value and respect him. 2) Wonder Woman stayed in the tower to keep Batman company and share the burden of monitor duty with him. They have a quiet, intimate Christmas together. Regardless of either scenario, Alfred checks in with Batman to wish him a Merry Christmas and assure him that dinner will be waiting for him when his watch ends. In the second scenario, Bruce invites Diana to join him and the Bat Family for the holiday feast.

So do I, there is way to many anti-hero’s. Yes I get it anti hero’s are more relatable, but if a hero makes the immortal choice 50% of the time they are not really much of a hero. As a concept antiheros we’re interesting until you got to the point where there are more antiheros then heros. Especially Superman he is supposed to stand for “ Truth Justice and the American Way” I always seen Superman as the moral equivalent to Captain American from Marvel or Allmight from my Hero of Academia. But sadly Dc writers hate the character and think evil Superman is more interesting. Especially Frank Miller who even said he hates Superman in an interview.

Regarding the ending of the J'onn / Superman / Kent story: The cherry on top is that the Kent family cat, which was at first aggressive and unwelcoming towards J'onn, even in his humanoid form, is now laying on his lap in his Martian form. It just melts my heart to see that, just as J'onn has learned more about Christmas and accepted it, so has the cat accepted him.

Fun fact for Humanite I think this was his last appearance in the show so in the end Flash’s words and actions reformed the villain and he never caused crime again and served his sentence. The DC animated universe was and still is the best of DC to truly show how amazing and even human these gods of men and women actually are.

You should do the episode about the Flash Museum where Orion is forced to participate by Batman. Its such a great glimpse into who Wally is, and has Orion finally get it towards the end. This is major because Orion, son of Darksied, is always torn between his nature and the upbringing he received from HighFather. Every reminder he gets of why good matters helps reinforce his refusal to be like Darksied.

I’ve always loved J’onn’s part in this episode. It’s not said what he likes about Christmas cause it’s hard to describe it. Also I just really love that he sings at the end. Not so much the song itself but the act. I also regularly sing carols and at church during Christmas and it definitely hits somewhere but I can’t say where.

A personal theory, though it is kinda cliché for J'onn, is that it is the togetherness of the season that made him internalize it. His family is typically never too far from his heart, so likely being immersed in a tradition that brings togetherness to the forefront sparked those kinds of memories in him. Plus, at the end of it all, Music truly is the universal language.

My favorite, FAVORITE part of this episode, is a single line from Clark when he and John are at his family's house. When Clark is telling John about how he comes here to be himself, his dad calls out that he's plugging in the lights, and Clark suddenly gets a panicked look on his face as he runs down the stairs, yelling about how that's supposed to be his job. It gives me so many warm fuzzy emotions, along with a clarity of who Clark Kent is and should be. I firmly believe that Superman is the kind of guy who respects and loves not only his parents so much that he appreciates the small tasks they gave him as a child, but also respects and loves those tasks in their own right because of how special they are in his own eyes. Turning on the lights for the tree is HIS job, and it makes the living room look beautiful. That's the kind of small time stuff I know Clark Kent would appreciate. I'm not saying Superman can never be serious. Matter of fact he's also at his best when he's being mature or sly or confident in his day to day life, whether that be in costume or out of it. But that human nature that gets shown off? I will never be sick of it.

There is a comic where Santa flies to Apokolips and proceeds to dodge Parademons and many traps - all to deliver a large piece of coal to Darkseid every Christmas. I loved how Flash's subplot was literally the plot of Jingle All the Way with the Ultra Humanite coming in out of left field to deliver a surprisingly touching moment of character development.

Honestly, this justice league show was amazing. Everything about it, from the characters, the arcs, the art design, the voice actors, every little detail about it was tailored to near perfection. IMO there will never be another justice league show as good as this.

This and THE Big O's Daemonseed are some of my favorite Christmas specials in animation. ngl. Lex Luthor saying, "Do you know the real meaning of Heaven's day? It's the day God's son was born." at the end of the episode gets me everytime, especially because theology is so heavily woven into and throughout the story without being heavy handed.

That's one of those things that I really loved about Justice League's flash. When you work on a scale as big as Superman's, it's easy to forgive him for being a little impersonal... and yet thanks to the flash we know the names of so many background extras, because flash knows them. The fact that you see him at a big crowd shot and he's calling people by name, asking how their day has been, complementing their shirt... Superman is a protector, Flash is a helpful neighbor, and I think that's brilliant.

This is one my favorite episodes of Justice League pretty much for the same reasons you mentioned. One of my favorite scenes you lightly touched on was the one where J'onn is outside the church listening to the first verse of the Christmas hymn "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear." It is beautiful to hear and I wish that more series would be willing to pay subtle tribute to reason Christmas is celebrated: the birth of Jesus.

Oh I love this episode, probably my favorite story in it is Jon aka Martian Manhunter spending Christmas with the Kents showing a more relaxed and for lack of a better word Human side to him...also establishing he likes Oreos. Also love the Flash and Humannite segment reminding us that Flash truly is the heart of the team, going out of his way to help kids while also showing empathy to the Humanite. The Green Lantern and Hawkgirl segment was kind of weak and frankly I wish we could've gotten something with Bruce and Diana. Seriously, I would've paid the equivalent of Scrooges bank account to see them on some kind of Christmas date.

Reason that the GLHG segment was weak was because GLHG was a low point of the series to begin with because of how showhorned in it felt. Hell, they even had to kill off Vixen just so John would go back to Hawkgirl in the end.

It was some "will they won't they", they fucked, then immediately after the Thanagar invasion happened to break them up and bring it back to "will they won't they". We got more moments of heroes being in a relationship from Question amd Huntress for gods sake with his awkward flirting and her pushing him out of his shell a bit.

One of my most favorite Justice League and Christmas specials ever. This episode really made me love Superman and his family, along with MMM and the Flash in the more humanly and wholesome way. The Kents are such a loving and caring family that makes me miss seeing just a simple family in superhero related thing, Flash is the like the best Santa for the DCAU that makes my heart melt, and oh, the way Green Lantern and Hawkgirl at the snow planet and the bar is way too fun and cute than I remembered. Out of the three plots, the Superman and Martian Manhunter had always stuck with me.

This is what the ULDRADARK stuff forgets. Lots of cartoons like this are lauded for their dark moments, but they only mattered because they stuck out and were well used. If it wasn't for the heroes feeling like actual people with likable personalities none of it would matter, angst is easy, making a character sad is easy, but actual character development is not. I barely remember the show because it's been a while and I have memory issues, but THAT scene, THAT scene is one I remember fondly. And I still remember the whole show fondly to, even if the memory monster has eaten a lot of the specifics. Also, I love that you're giving the Justice League cartoon some attention. I don't see much commentary on it but I hope to see more.

Honestly I think it is the best Christmas specials than most Christmas specials. Where the stories tells you that Christmas should be good and all of that, here they show it and let each superhero express it in a different way. Even with the bar scene. Green Lantern experience something that Hawkgirl enjoys same with Hawkgirl experiencing Green Lantern enjoyment. Id say it is the weakest one but still holds meaning as they are uncomfortable but yet they enjoy the others company regardless. I think that is more real. Like some people may not seeing others family because makes them uncomfortable yet goes and try to enjoy themselves to be with the other. At least that's what I got from it. Now I will have to say that my favorite is Superman and John. That is when onions are cut when seeing that John can be himself

Flash in the dcau is probably the best made flash in history with how he treats his enemies and shows as much compassion as batman and superman when the need arises. Thanks so much for this one, Shady! My dad went home to be with the Lord right after Christmas last year. My family is doing well enough because of the hope we have in Jesus, not wanting to be a "buzzkill or debbie downer in this positive space" (lol, if ya know, ya know), so we know "it's not goodbye, more like see you later!" (Incidentally, Justice League is awesome, but still need more KotH!) Anyway, this was probably his favorite episode of Justice League, so this brought a lot of happy thoughts home this morning while listening to you! So, thank you for this gift!
