I was hoping there would be a fundraiser. People that actually care need to put their money where there mouth is. Prayers don't work. Money does. Start by donating to fundraisers like this, but also.. donate to political campaigns for people that will actually do the will of the people. Vote for politicians that will make healthcare for all a priority!

The insurance companies are nothing more than a racket taking advantage of people. It's a system where the poor get poorer and sicker and the rich and well off with good jobs get taken care of. You can pay hundreds of dollars in insurance bills every month only for them to deny you certain medicine or treatment options because you don't have "good enough insurance". My elderly sick father pays almost $300 a month only for them to recently deny him aquatic physical therapy, charging him $100 per session when he already pays nearly $300 a month! Nothing but crooks running the insurance in this country.

Basically, we all want to play a part in social reform and while it is a pleasure and honor to donate money, these people are already paying their health insurance and the health insurance are failing them egregiously because of way excessive greed and so it’s time for us to address a big picture and learn the tools a poor put some power back into her own hands as well as hand out the daily meals and come together - but we really need to figure out how to put the power back into our hands So these middle men are not taking everything and draining us years of our time and lives and money when they’re exacting huge costs and not serving the most needed cases

Sickening. When my insurance decided they only wanted to cover a small portion of my insulin, they left me with a massive copay. I would have to buy 1 pen at a time for 140 dollars. I just flabbergasted at how you can get an insurance agent on the phone and have them confirm "yes, we got the paperwork from his doctor saying this medicine is 100% necessary for his health and be will suffer harm if denied. And no, there are no alternative treatments or meds were offering as an alternative. We're simply saying you're son is going to get sicker". I'm Italian and we have universal healthcare, I literally can't imagine this. My mom has several medical issues and I've spent my childhood in hospitals while she had multiple surgeries. We never had to pay anything, it would've ended very badly if we had to. Knowing a loved one is struggling is hard enough without having to worry about not having the medications and treatments, it's madness! I'm sorry for the long comment , I knew this problem existed in the US but didn't imagine it was this bad. Sending love, vi amo ragazzi❤

Same here, from Austria. For me its impossible that life-saving drugs arent payed. Yes, there have been special cases, where the insurance just only pays a part of it, because of their contract with the medicine producing firm. But it would be still available and other financining aid from the state would be helping in such cases. I wish Mason and his family all the best. And I hope that the insurance might change their "mind"/ financing policies.

Also Sweden, we do pay for medicines but there's a cap on how much you have to pay per year. You get a discount after a certain number and once you reach the cap it's free for a year from the first day you paid in full. There's also a government discount on certain medicines. I can not imagine this ever happen in any country in Europe. USA leaders have to stop thinking they're soo great and superior because they're definitely not 😬

As a med student from another country, this breaks my heart. This should never happen to any child, seeing such a sweet kid worry about not having the money to be healthy is so sad, GvHD needs to be monitored. Healthcare isn’t free in America because the rich people here want to have all the best care for themselves and the poor people don’t even get drugs that could save their lives or make them have a better quality of life. I think if healthcare was free for everyone here, maybe then everyone would have equal care.

I know, and I'm so sorry about the situation. I know it's very difficult to build a free healtcare system from zero right now, especially for a country as big as the US. But I really hope you guys can achieve it, it's totally surreal how high the prices are even for an ambulance. In my country we have free healthcare that is pretty good, and then you can actually also have doctors appointment in which you pay. The only difference is that if you pay, you can have the appointment earlier and some surgeries that are not granted by the free system (ex. cosmetic ones) but the doctors are usually the same and use the (public) hospital structures so the price is not that high. I recently had to have surgery, saw a doctor fast (so I paid, about 150€) and then got free surgery since it was a necessity so I was covered. It's not perfect, but a system like this could be a good compromise. Wish you guys the best, I really hope the situation changes

Another thing about how US is the set up. I moved to UK and found there were doctors offices (they call doctors surgeries) every population center, even a small town would have one they made sure there was enough to give the entire country access with in walking distance. The amount of offices are present to cover the country though slightly strained due to Tories cutting funding. In US I lived in an area where I had to bypass 2 semi large towns and lots of miles of suburban sprawl to get to a doctors office it was 45 miles away. When I got there my ex husband was told he couldn't see the doctor for his first appointment until February,it was November. So US doesn't even care about setting up the infrastructure to make sure all citizens get covered, it's not that it can't , it won't. It won't because it already knows only a fraction of people will get access to care anyways. That is why it was extremely ill equipped for the pandemic, it's only focusing on a fraction of its clients paying for care.

Also, what I clearly noticed as an immigrant in the USA is one thing, that almost nobody mentions in regards to medical costs in the USA: legal fees. In Germany, you don’t sue your doctor. Maybe in extremely severe cases and you’ll maybe be awarded 100K dollars. In the USA people sue quickly and for millions of dollars. So, doctors need to have huge insurance policies. Technically free healthcare doesn’t exist. In Germany, we paid 400Euro ourselves, for health insurance and my employer paid the same. However, employers don’t gift you that money, the deduct it from the salary they pay you, before even making the offer. We have very good insurance through our employer in the USA and I was able to finally get diagnosed with a ct scan, wich is not easily done in Germany, for example it’s not routine in the ER, to get a ct scan in Germany. But healthcare is much more the same for everyone and basics are covered better . In the USA you are so dependent on having luck with coverage and your insurance and that’s ridiculous. I think insurances should be governed and having to cover certain things, all life saving medication, for example. Why can insurance even decline medication without even giving a good alternative medication? That should be illegal.

I have disabilities and so do both my kids. I cannot remember a time where insurance companies did not dictate our quality of life. The most frustrating thing is insurance companies save themselves no money by denying meds, especially ones the patient has taken for a long time. It always results in more ER visits, hospital stays, and doctor visits. It costs more than the prescription they deny. It's a broken system. I wish this family nothing but the best, and I hope they get the meds soon! Much love!

Dad should not let himself be conned by these insurance company criminals by agreeing that it's "not personal between the insurance company and your family". It is VERY personal and it is NOT "just the way it is". Hire a lawyer. Look for a pro bono attorney. They love to win these healthcare cases that involve children. Fight this insurance company tooth, claw and nail. In the mean time, start a Go Fund Me page and get the meds he needs. Call your local TV station and have them come and do a segment on this tragedy. Public opinion is a strong incentive. I would never give up fighting for what I know my child needs to survive. Healthcare Justice Now! Universal Healthcare Now! Stay strong Mason. 💪

Disability, around the world, regardless of age, and regardless of "severity" needs to be supported. I thank SBSK for representing disabled people of all kinds and bringing up issues like healthcare. These kids are wonderful, and their parents shouldn't worry about their meds. Health insurance works differently where I come from, and while it's not perfect, this just feels inhumane. Medical professionals of any sort need pay. But medical procedures to save and improve lives shouldn't be monetized. Mason's little nods and headshakes are sweet, but I pray for the day he can run around and be chased by his dad again! He's full of life and spunk, and under the right circumstances he'll be able to showcase that!
