A kids bicycle has broken down. Replacing the bicycle headset

Today, a children's bicycle was brought to our bike workshop. This bicycle had an issue with the headset. As you can see, riding this bike was impossible. I will show you how to repair a child's bicycle.

I get it its a kids bike and may not be used very long. Here's a tip for this situation when the cups or crown race are fitting loosely ...thats only going to get worse as use continues. Many poeple will use shims made from cans . The aluminum can shim doesn't last very long anyway. The better solution is to use Lock Tite loose fit bearing mount it is used in heavy duty industrial bearings that aren't press fit or no longer staying in place from a worn press fit. This stuff goes on as a liquid and fills the gap up to 0.014 inches that is a pretty sizable gap and loose. Once the liquid fills the gap and expels the oxygen the liquid in the gap begins to undergo a chemical reaction and changes in a strong polymer that will usually keep the bearing succure for the rest of the bikes use. If you did it right you are probably going to need to heat the cups/crown race to remove them. The most important thing is to get the mating surface absolutely clean and grease free. The retaining compound will self center so apply it to both surfaces and use minimal pressure to hold the bearing in place while curing. That is the next thing make sure that the room temperature is normal the cooler the room the longer it takes to cure it cures so much better above 60°F . That will take 24 hours before using the bike that is also very important I usually set it aside for at least a couple of days just to be sure. There are many manufacturers of this product Lock-Tite has never failed me as long as things were in spec. So you want the " heavy duty loose fit bearing mount " regardless of who the manufacturer is. It is also useful in worn suspension pivots and worn press fit bottom brackets. This certainly works with metal frames and parts. I can't say about Carbon Fiber because I haven't had much experience with the material. I suspect it should work but that will be more or less permanent. But a frame tossed out is also a permanent solution. Just make sure the bearing is well greased with top shelf products and those bearings don't always come from the factory fully filled. That's on purpose because those specifications were for high speed bearings operating at many thousands to tens of thousands RPM so they are lightly filled. Not really a good thing for a bicycle used year round right through the winter. You really can't over fill for a bicycle the excess will ooze out during the next years pushing dirt outside of it. This also works for loose cups and press fit bearings in hubs too. I would buy the smaller bottle . The big bottle is expensive and stuff happens it gets tipped over or contaminated . The little bottle was always available in my tool kit and was used up in a year or two and I replaced it before it was completely empty. Many nice bicycles went back into service for a long time using this product.
