I do see the onus for better, more ethical conflict behavior to be more on the Israeli side, given the power differential. It is asking too much to demand that the party with no power exercise MORE restraint in the conflict. (Also: As a Jew, I am so grateful for Peter Beinart and his intelligence and sensitivity and articulateness. And his Jewish morals.)

Amazing interview. The three of you and your wonderful guest Peter Beinart have provided us with an enthralling discussion on Palestine, Israel and Zionism. In some small way it can provide a model of what a creative discussion between Israelis and Palestinians could be. Thank you and continue the great work you’re doing.

Peter omits that in Israel almost everyone is "in the army" or "from the army¨. Reservists have their full kit at home. 1000s of guns have streamed into settlers' hands in the West Bank and we're seeing the results of that daily.

The guy switching schools instead of standing up for what is right and letting those other students know the difference is just adding to the problem. That’s the reaction that feeds into all of this division, and Israel’s hold on the Jewish people.

Beinart's got the FMEP podcast ‘Occupied Thoughts’ kinda similar to this. Depends, try Jadaliyya, Al Jazeera has a couple of good podcasts… I catch everything from Democracy Now! for news to Electronic Intifada to the Majority Report to Bad Hasbara 😃

"Bad Hasbara" by Matt Lieb and Daniel Máte . You can actually even laugh and they have good guests ( Three Arrows being the , somewhat , single exception because He is a West German and Like the Rest of them He is completly blind to the institutional racism in Germany . Which takes a Lot of quality away from His observations (which are true but If you believe the fairy Tale that our grandfathers (i'm east German ) only killed Jews and Ignore literally every single Bit of academic Research into the amount of people killed by the Nazis then you get a pretty stunted explanation to why Germany is supporting Israel )but thats a cultural issue (thats huge , we have aaaa loooot of Cheerleaders for Genocide right now in Germany , also on the "left" mind you , and basically all of them come from West Germany and some even lie more then the IDF which is remarkable in itself ) Not really a Problem of the Podcast only that the Host can obviously Not Push Back If confronted with what is basically a Mass delusion/psychosis running rampant in the West German populace .

I admire Peter alot but you guys should have pushed him back on ethical resistance!! You should have mentiined settlers armed to their teeth in west bank and retired military in gaza bufferzone. Historically in ALL world genocides, worst atrocities comitted by paramilitary dressed as civilians! True civilians in Israel should be defined as women and children and maybe men above 65.. women of arm bearing age are often IDF reserves though. It is an army of people

I worked w JVP for years and they represent everything I know to be true about Judaism. They're at the forefront of what I consider to be a new Jewish civil rights movement, which is solidarity with Palestinians,

Moral, legal, ideological superstructure develops upon a material, economic foundation. Conscious superstructure tries to double back on the foundation, to regulate and perpetuate the situation, social reproduction. In a question of national oppression, the nations become classes, and marxism readily describes how different classes produce conflicting ideologies.

“Diaspora” signifies legitimacy to a Jewish-only state, which reinforces racial/ethnic supremacy. Israel is a colony that was designed rather artificially. It’s bizarre people openly or perhaps unconsciously say these things.
@lordfedjoe
@lordfedjoe 5 ай бұрын
I have said this multiple times. I don't know where that word started. Using the word Diaspora, it legitimise the claim that Holyland is the ancestral homeland of all Jews. So when someone convert to Jew, Holyland automatically becomes his ancestral homeland. Calling them diaspora, they are practically saying Yemen, Morroco, Iraq or Ukraine is not your homeland, Holy land is
@mohammadhamad4694
@mohammadhamad4694 5 ай бұрын
@@lordfedjoe It's even deeper than that just the "Holyland," which billions of people around the world give meaning to. We're talking about Historic Palestine. New settlers don't move to Jerusalem, they move to the West Bank and become human shields for those outposts.

@@lordfedjoe The term predates Zionism. It is many centuries old. It is a direct translation of the term גולה - Golah, which is used throughout the Talmud. Remember that the connection to the land of Israel and Jerusalem predates the Zionist movement. For thousands of years, Jewish texts and prayer books looked to that land with hope to return, following the Roman destruction, and even the Babylonian one before it. That is what the term Diaspora means. It should not be abolished in response to Zionism.

Why couldn’t Beinart just stand by his initial assertion that “From the River to the Sea” (and even more so its Arabic equivalent) and “intifada revolution” are _understandably_ interpreted by most Jews as a call to violence against them. He was wavering on that unnecessarily.
@urbandiscount

Not by "most Jews¨. By "most jews who have had zionist indoctrination fed to them from the get-go". I'm a European Jews, I don´t seen them as a call to violence against _me_.

I loved Peter Beinart. Is anyone actually working on reviving the PLO, & including Hamas & getting a united front ala ANC, with inclusion for Jewish Israelis (at least those who give up Zionism & Jewish supremacy) in the vision? Has anyone approached Hamas to get them on board - I think there's material to be worked with with them, the latest charter explicitly stating their quarrel is with Zionists is a good start. The bantustans are being built while we talk.
@AdultThirdCultureKid1971
@AdultThirdCultureKid1971 5 ай бұрын
So do I. These are excellent questions. Reviving the PLO might require Abbas to step down and Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, or maybe younger (Gen X, older Millennials, and Gen Z) Palestinians to step up. They might be willing to welcome Jewish Israelis who give up Zionism and Jewish supremacy.

antisemitism has been on an upward trajectory for a while and my understanding is that the scholarly work that desegregates the data on what Peter is calling “BS antisemitism” from the remaining reports is that the trend continues, but doesn’t have a sharp upward shift. that has surprised me because I felt from the beginning that traditional antisemites and Christian white nationalists would be taking advantage of the moment from opposite sides. but I’ve seen less infiltration of groups supporting the right to self-determination of Palestinians by antisemites while there has been an increase of violent attacks on those the attacker believes to be Arabic. and I’m not entirely sure “trauma” is the right term here given what Palestinians experience daily in and out of armed conflict. they’re definitely uncomfortable, but that’s not necessarily the same. this is especially the case where some have said they regret acting in solidarity with other groups because none of those other groups signed up for supporting indiscriminate bombing because they showed up and it feels to those communities like the movement was being treated as a transaction by people who don’t actually believe in what they stand for. this may also be a talking point they’ve internalized due to repetition, but it doesn’t sting any less for other groups.

Hezbollah avoided attacking civilians and has killed none since things heated up after Oct 7. He doesn't say that about Hamas. The IDF has killed what, 40 civilians?
