And this is the reason why RPG maker games are such a rabbit hole you never know what you will find. Props flr the costume btw your helmet reminds me of shredder from the TMNT

Felvidek as a name for Slovakia is a tad ahistorical (introduced about in 18. century probably), something I talked with the creator about, but in the end, I conceded that it barely matter. The game is fun as a heck, and if you play in Slovak, it also has great play with language that is honestly miles above general dialogue, atop the great banter and story. Playing it sometimes feels like either I'm drunk, the characters are drunk, or we all are drunk. Which, in the end, is the true Slovak experience.

Well true when it comes to the name. But do you know which name would better suit it? I am mainly asking since I don't know how the area of today's Slovakia called before the name Felvidek was started to be used.
@NemooSK8 ай бұрын
@@marukatsuro9731 Well, generally it would be simply called Kingdom of Hungary, as it was integral part of the country, occasionally Upper Hungary, Upper parts, Northern parts, etc. Bit more rarely, it would be straight up called Slovakia (in various language variants), and that is generally it for names, alongside later Felvidek, which basically means 'Upper parts'. One thing I found interesting, is that for a short while (about century and half?) western and central Slovakia was occasionally called Terra Mathei, as if Mathias land, based on the oligarch Matúš Čák/Maté Csák, who ruled these parts in 14th century almost independently from the king. It could be an interesting name to use, if it was ever set a century sooner.

@@NemooSK "Bit more rarely, it would be straight up called Slovakia (in various language variants)" Strange, I wasn't aware of that. Kinda funny and strange that the name is older than I originally thought. " for a short while (about century and half?) western and central Slovakia was occasionally called Terra Mathei, as if Mathias land" That is not only interesting but it would be so cool to see if the game was a century and something sooner. Mainly when the game is set, at least of what I've heard, in the Eastern part of todays Slovakia.

Isnt the name kinda irrelevant, nationalism didn't really exist back then.

i feel the need to mention, the art style is VERY intentional, it's inspired by influential Slovak traditional painters and illustrators, namely Albín Brunovský and Martin Benka. The game brims with references to Slovak culture and humor and I'm obsessed with it.

I was enjoying this and considering checking it out, but once we got to the music, I was totally sold. I can only imagine a PS1 lookin knight going absolutely BANANAS on the drum kit. I have to see more.

When you said that you wished that all of the game was like it's cinematics you reminded me of another game with similar style and also set in Slovakia - HROT. Although it's an FPS in a satirical post-apocalypse, but the artstyle and cultural background and references really link those two. Even the Hussites play a major role in it!

the cinematics are insane, literally going to play this game to see that red spiky thing dance

Funnily you mention K:CD, when the dev of this got hired by Warhorse Studios shortly after publishing Felvidek. (Or before) So he might as well be working on it's sequel as we speak!

5:35 Hussites are people from another nation. In the Slovak version of the game the speak in czech language. So they are not hungarians/slovaks.
@heibk-20197 ай бұрын
You and the video creator are both correct. It was a czech religious movement. In the hussite revolution they fought against the catholic church, that should have happened around the time Felvidek takes place.

The different versions of names are not nicknames, they are just more familiar versions of first names. Pretty much every name in Czech and Slovak (Which is basically a dialect of Czech, but don't tell the Upper Hungarians) has them. The game uses archaic language in Slovakian as well, which is pretty funny to modern Czechs and Slovaks and adds a lot to the game.
