A Land Fit For Heroes

On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, it's a good time to think about whose lives actually bought you the freedoms you currently enjoy and whether those freedoms are truly cherished by today's politicians and political pundits, or whether they have simply taken us all for fools while they served their own personal and political ends. Don't forget to vote folks! Someone's life paid for that right.
A LAND FIT FOR HEROES
A land that’s fit for heroes,
That’s what they used to say
When my old man came home from war.
They said he’d have to pay
His National Insurance
His taxes and his rent.
The politicians promised
It was money all well spent.
We’re going to build you hospitals.
Just you wait and see.
And your children’s education
Will be marvellous and free.
There’ll be jobs for all a-plenty
And dental health besides.
And we’ll build you lovely houses
That you can live inside.

We’ll keep you safe from fraud and crime

We’ll purify our rivers.

Our streets they will be spotless,
The best you’ve ever seen.

We’ll stand up tall for human rights,
For freedom and fair play.
Integrity’s our watchword.
Our decisions will not sway
To payments from the Lobbyists
Or the Barons of the press

Or pay their taxes less.
We’ll tell the truth in Parliament
And own up when we fail.
We’ll make sure no-one innocent
Is ever sent to jail.
We’ll always have your welfare
Uppermost in mind.
No matter what your background,
We’ll be generous and kind.
We promise we’ll do better
We promise we’ll be true.
We promise that we’ll follow
All the rules we set for you.
Your call is most important
