Two Philly families were served with Act 135 petitions over properties that had passed down through generations. This is what happened when they fought back.
Read more about Pennsylvania’s conservatorship law has spawned an industry of nonprofits, many run by real-estate investors, that can sue to take over blighted, abandoned properties. Some are finding ways to profit, www.inquirer.c...

Sold the house for near 1/2 million, but no money left for him. Yeah that's because the "non profit" is in some kind of relationship with a contractor who makes big money rehabbing these homes. And don't kid yourselves, "non profit" employees get paid, I'd be interested in seeing what piece of the pie the "non-profit" took. Lots of people made money, like the realtor didn't work for free either.

This is crazy. Why didn’t that “group” help the family. They are supporting generations.

I guarantee that local politicians are involved. My father was forced to sell his business and the property that they held in center city Philadelphia, located on the corner of 11th and locust by Rendell and his cronies. They kept sending bogus violations threatening to close their restaurant; The Savoy Restaurant", and my father and his 2 brothers whom worked and owned the restaurant for 40 years or so were swindled into selling the business and corner center city property for pennies on the dollar. Politicians got rich, my family did not get what they earned, and now the property houses a Walgreens and 10 condos above it. Each worth close to a million dollars or more, while the 3 families that got taken by the politicians ended up with under $750,000 for all 3 families. This is what they do. The politicians swoop in and buy the properties on the cheap prior to the area being developed, or they do what they did to my family, and the rich get richer. It is just pathetic.

@mannymets5687 So sorry, such a SAD story. Your family had "Prime Property "! That's the real reason the CROOKS wanted it! I live in "filthadellphia" too. Manny, all the best to you & urs!

what is sad is that the 3 brothers including my father owned and operated the business for 40 years. They legally came to this country and worked very hard, and never made more than 65k per year. At the end; when they had a very valuable piece of property left over; the corrupt politicians found a way to eliminate any and all forms of family wealth that they should have received for their corner property in center city Philadelphia... I currently own a pinball showroom and arcade in Langhorne PA named Game Gallery, which is not very far from center city. Come visit some time , and thank you very much for your kind words. @@emmawalton1849

This is so wrong to take someones home.. They should help them to fix their homes not steal homes from people who are sick or can't afford to fix. Our government is so wrong for allowing people do get away with this people can't even afford groceries and bills let alone fix homes especially at what stuff costs unless u take loan from bank and that is a set up too.. System is so wrong and the people who bought their homes should be put in jail.....

That neighborhood “non profit” acts like “non profit” hospitals with their “non profit” billing. Twisted that it rakes in 20% of sales, not very “non profit” obviously.

The kicker is that their contractors can charge whatever they would like, and then kick back money to them for whatever reason they choose to down the road, or of coarse they could just give the kick back to them via cash...

No one should be able to take away someone else’s home if they own it….if a house is needing serious repairs then I understand a law requiring the owner to make repairs….but no one else should be allowed to take away that house…that house should be able to be handed down to family and stay in the family if the family wants it. And even if a house is in such disrepair and needs to be torn down….the owner and family should still own the property and if they want to sell that property then they should be the only ones to profit from that property. This law allowing someone else to come in and claim and sell someone else’s property should be eliminated….it should be a crime.

Instead of helping the people who needed a helping hand they take over for their own gain. That's not helping blight that's helping the developers. You'd think a non-profit would use the non-profit status to help those who can't afford to do things not those who can like the developers.
