Incredible woman! I was 19 when I finally accepted that I’m gay. I had my first proper relationship with a girl but when I told my mum her reaction was one of anger and disgust. I accepted this, as like you said in this video, it can take time. 9 months later when the relationship with my girlfriend broke down was when my mum spoke to me again. I come from a very very close family and was unintentionally made to feel like I was ruining it all. So I put those feelings to one side. Fast forward almost 10 years. I’m about to turn 29, I am married to a man and have 2 children. I am gay. And I can’t live this lie any more. My husband and I have separated for a multitude of reasons, but unbeknown to him, I’m gay, and that’s a big factor for me. Our families don’t yet know about the split and that will happen over the coming weeks. And I have to decide how and when to explain that I’m gay. To my husband and my family. I know I am going to get “abuse” for it. I know that I am likely to loose the close relationship I’ve rebuilt with my mum. Watching this video breaks my heart because I just want to be accepted for who I am by the people who mean the most to me. Thankyou for this. It gives me confidence and hope that maybe things will be okay one day. Good luck with your surgery today. I will be thinking of you and Shannon xx

I recently came out to my parents and they were so supportive like you, Deb. It really does make a difference when you have accepting and understanding parents. I cried in my mums arms for a while and she told me that all she wants is me to love the same way everyone else does. I had hid my sexuality from my parents for 3 years prior and it felt so good to just be free and open. My parents support is the only thing that mattered to me in that moment and am forever grateful for the forever understanding parents like you, Deb. It means so much to have this beautiful response from you. It really does.
