for the conclusion, i've been told by teachers that the concluding paragraph has to actually introduce a new point (and that has its own chain of analysis and etc). but whenever i check the mark scheme the conclusion is more like a suggestion of what the business should do (with regards to what the answer has suggested). so what exactly should the conclusion be? a new point? a pagraph summarizing the answer and the best option to pick? or something else altogether?

Thanks for the positive feedback. In an ideal world, you should aim to evaluate the point you have just analysed at the end of each paragraph and then provide an evaluation that offers an answer to the overall question in a conclusion at the end.

This video is of so much help. However, i still have a question. As you mentioned evaluate answer at end of each paragraph, can i do that by making a point and writing its pros but in the same paragraph listing it cons as well? Will this be contradicting or will be rewarding marks?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing the cons of a point as well as its pros - if anything. that provides more depth to the analysis. To be evaluative, you could then judge which are more significant, the pros or the cons.

If you make a point and if you are answering a question correctly but this point isn't mentioned in the mark scheme can you still get rewarded?

Absolutely. The mark schemes always list a series of possible points or answers but at the bottom will always say something like 'this is not an exhaustive list and other creditworthy answers should be awarded marks'. The list of possible answers in a mark scheme are usually fairly comprehensive, but wont cover every possible correct idea.

Theories are an important way of helping you develop points that answer the question. For example, imagine you were asked on Monday to evaluate how Business X could improve their competitiveness. Rather than you try to think up an answer to that question, you could let Porter's generic strategies answer it for you - one way of improving competitiveness would be to pursue a low cost producer strategy but a different way would be to pursue a differentiation strategy. You could apply this by explaining how these two strategies might apply to the business in the case study.

I don't advise students to write any answers using bullet points, but I would say this is particularly true when writing longer essay answers. I would always answer using full paragraphs. Good luck in your paper 1.
