Thank you for making and posting this video. It is very helpful indeed. I am studying AQA A level history as a distance learner and this is far more useful than anything in the course guidance. I was particularly interested in what you said at the end, that pointing out gaps / missing points in the extract doesn't score much with the markers. Thanks again.

should i evaluate the side of the argument that is against my main argument. For example, if my argument is that the extract is mostly convincing, should I evalulate the unconvincing paragraph at the end?

Will there ever be an extract which doesn't contain any unconvincing detail which you therefore can't argue against? If so, how would you tackle this?

This shouldn't happen, there should always be something you can argue is unconvincing. If you agree with the overall view expressed, look out for things such as overstating the case or a sub argument you can go against.

Thank you! I found this video really helpful - could you possibly make a video on how to structure a 20-mark history essay (with particular focus on introductions)? I would really appreciate it. 😭

I will try! It is on the list of videos to do in the next few months

Hi, in the exam I didn’t make a final sentence judging overall value of the source at the end of each block paragraph But I constantly referred to the question when analyzing and said “this therefore makes source valuable” etc. throughout I also think I did well on all the other assessment criteria Do you think not having this final sentence will significantly affect my level or cap me at a certain level even if everything else was good??

when explaining the central argument of an extract, do we explain it in relation to the question? or do we just say what the extract is arguing and then link the question in the convincing/not convincing paragraphs underneath
@AlanHistoryNerd2 жыл бұрын
Yes explain it in relation to the question

How many points for convincing/not convincing would be enough for each extract to get an A:A*? Do you think 2 reasons why the extract is convincing and 1 why it is not, with supporting knowledge and evidence from extract, would be enough?
@AlanHistoryNerd3 жыл бұрын
I would expect 3 points on one side and then 2 or 3 on the other at the top end

so you would have a point for and against per paragraph, repeating this x3 in an essay?@@AlanHistoryNerd
