I have fished all my life, but always with live or natural baits. I decided when I turned 50 that I wanted to learn something new. I bought the Premier baitcaster from Academy and found your video on using the reel. I have been watching you for several months, learning lure techniques for bass. I caught my first bass on a splitshot rigged, tequila sunrise, curltail worm (1 dollar at Wally World) on Tuesday evening! Thanks so much for the tutorials and great, realistic videos.

Maybe it was just the line. Give it one more shot with your favorite line.

The softness of the rod digs the hooks into all of the little snags. I like that stiff rod tip to pop it free before it can dig in. The guides are also too small and the line bunches up at the first guide causing wind knots and tangles. I might get a cheap Chinese pen rod to compare though...

lojo.fishing I disagree my friend, they have always been junk, a three piece traveler would be a much better option but the quality of experience goes down every time you add the word "piece" and tanks every time you use the word telescopic🦎👑🐟
@bigmoemedina3136 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree, I have nothing but 2 PIECE rods in my arsenal cause i Drive a small car, they’re very reliable and quite expensive as well. Also have this Zebco Telescopic rod i paid $25 for it and its a couple years old now never had any issues, Caught several 3-4lbs with it. It’s the one i keep in my car as a travel rod.

RF, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at your experience. The good news is that you are one persistent angler and battled your way through all the issues with your combo and finally got a nice bass. I think your bass was probably closer to a pound and 3/4 by the way... It has been my experience that the line is the weakest link on almost all the inexpensive, pre-spooled rod/reel outfits regardless of brand. They are usually spooled with some 10-12 pound goat rope and need a better quality 6-8 lb maximum line size. Best wishes, Don

Bought the $10 Shakespeare version of this at Wal-Mart. (non-telescoping rod) Had some similar problems with the line snarling at first, but once I got it unwound enough to fly smoothly, had no other problems. Doesn't handle a hook and redworm (live) real well, but for artificial rigs, I can't complain. Even went back and bought another one after my wife broke the tip off the first rod.

That loop might have happened because it was overlooked. I bought a Shakespeare combo a while back and it did that crap every other cast. After cutting some line off it stopped doing it. So now when I get a combo that's pre-spooled, I'll trim 40 or so yards worth off it.

Eh, I was kind of hoping it would be a good option to just leave in the trunk of my wifes car when we're out and about and I can't take my full 7 rods, or even a 2 piece. A telescoping rod like that might be handy. I wonder if you paired it up with a bit better of a reel like a Daiwa 2000-3000 size reel, and/or some better line, if it would fair better? I do have a cheap ultralight that came similiar to this, but isn't telescoping, think it was like "ready 2 fish" or some shit. I use it for panfish and it works fine even if the reel is complete shit in build quality, but i've never had the problems like you have here. I did re-spool it with 6lb Co-polymer though.
@RealisticFishing6 жыл бұрын
I think it would work better with a spincast reel. The eyes are just too small and that causes the line, especially loopy line, to bunch up and get twisted.

It might work better for micro fishing 👍

I got one a few weeks ago been using it at a pond up the road from my girlfriends job while I wait for her, I have yet to have any problems with it.. I caught a few bass with it so far and some catfish, had to cut the line for the first time today cause I got caught on some Lilly pads but it held up pretty well while I was tugging. Maybe u got unlucky with that one haha. I definitely wouldn’t use it anywhere other than ponds and I’m pretty gentle with it.

Hi man, if you put a different reel on the rod would it work better you think?
@RealisticFishing6 жыл бұрын
No, they both suck. 😂

Realistic Fishing have you ever found a good telescopic rod. Looking for a good one for travel.

Also look at multiple piece rods, cheap 5 piece rods get recommended for bicycle and backpack fishing all the time. (I just went for a 2 piece tied along the top tube though)

I bought the same combo for a truck kit to be ready at all times to fish. No catches yet but not too bad for 10 bucks I paid

Don't be surprised if you have a few problems. 😉

LoL I don't even attempt to use the line thats on new reels. Re - spooling line will solve 90% of the issues. But I get the otb review. I always wonder the same thing when I snag old huge line. Wtf are these people fishing for? How do they lose line so heavy? Like the video man you're entertaining.

I have this exact combo. Good for crappie fishing. The line that comes with it is crap. The reel tho is smooth and good. Change the line to ur fav lb and brand.

I think I will stick to my more reliable equipment.

Hey, have you used a chatterbait or bladed jig on the channel before? I just broke out my first one yesterday and was very pleased with performance and results. I'd be happy to send a couple your way if you'd like to try it out on the channel.

I ran the product number from you receipt on Walmart.com. It's regularly priced at $24.49, so at $9 you got a fishing steal. I expect to have line issues with any factory spooled reel, but after respooling with better line it would be a good convenience combo to keep under the seat of the truck for those opportune fishing moments.

Its in the back of the car just in case. And of course I got a good deal... Budget Fishing Jesus 👍
