The next scene right after the flashback of the argument between Ellie and Joel, is Ellie stitching her wound. I had never made that connection, but that's exactly what Joel does in a metaphorical way. Their relationship is clearly not the same anymore, the lie he told and betrayed Ellie's trust left a wound, which he tries to stitch up through continually trying to sustain that lie.
@slickstar96Күн бұрын
Also note Ellie does the same thing joel does in that scene when she can see dina visibly agitated by ellie constant pursuit without waiting on jesse she goes "what" prompting dina to say "nothing" on the defence in where she finishes the sentence by saying "good". Same like joel where he says anything else to rehash. Putting ellie on the defence with no and him finishing it off with "good" the parallels are everywhere in this game...

damn good catch

HUD is what you were referring to. You’re doing great. This episode is where you see Ellie slipping into obsession a bit. Dina knew she couldn’t slow her down, similar to an addict. Next episode is gonna be 🔥.

Such a good game. I can definitely understand why people don't like it due to how they handle joel etc but the storytelling is without a doubt amazing
@ToastyZach6 сағат бұрын
Joel is written and handled perfectly fine. People were just mad their favorite character got cracked open so they called the game shit. Druckmann (and even Abby's VA) were sent literal death threats over it. If I was Druckmann I would RUIN part 3 just to get back at those virgs lol

Simon and Page are, imo, the best set of notes in the game. Over the missed context clues, the corpse next to the noose in the building is Page, which makes the whole thing even more tragic. The deserters who ambush you is also an awesome subversion of expectations; there are so many aspects in this episode and the next which are excellent!

Listening to your thoughts about the lie and how maybe it would've gone better if he was just straight with her from the beginning... While potentially true, one of the things I really like about the nuances of the writing -- and I hadn't even thought about it until just now -- is that it's so believable that Joel would've thought she couldn't handle the truth. We often lie to people to soften the blow of things and we ESPECIALLY do that with kids. An attempt to not only "protect" them from the truth or hide any morally gray areas that may change how they view us, but also because we just genuinely think kids can't handle such moral complexity. And while some kids can -- as even 15-year-old Ellie probably could -- there is some truth to it. I can think of so many times when I think back on my parents choices and decisions as an adult and think, "I get it," whereas I never really understood it back then. It feels like the solution would be so easy in hindsight, but it's fascinating to really depict and explore something so reckless and yet fairly realistic. Reminds me a bit of really dissecting a lot of character choices made in shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

About the "no HUD thing" you're right about that. I also think one of the reasons that Naughty Dog is doing minimalistic HUDs on their recent games is to lessen "distractions" like what you said and to keep the players immersed with the story and experience. I think I've heard that from one of their interviews or something (or from one of their documentaries). Anyways! Just wanted to let you know, I'm a new subscriber to your channel here! I REALLY LOVE your commentaries and reactions. Please keep them coming! I binged watch your Last of Us gameplay for the past few days and I just caught up with your recent video. I hope you'd play more games from Naughty Dog as well. Any chance we'll see Uncharted gameplay from your channel in the future? The Uncharted series is also one of the beloved games from Naughty Dog and one of my all-time favorites. Would love to see your reactions to it someday. Thanks so much for sharing your reactions!

Ellie was so mad at Joel for not letting her speak to the fireflies but tbh they weren’t trying to hear her questions. They took an unconscious little girl out of the sewer and put her straight onto an operating table to end her life without saying anything to her.
@marcinkosinski89Күн бұрын
The way I see it: I think Ellie felt guilty about having the irresistible urge to follow her path of vengeance even though Dina's pregnancy was clearly a priority, something that screamed, "It's time to head back." Naturally, she felt relieved when she found out someone she trusts-Jesse-is there to take care of Dina while she's away looking for the people who wronged her and Tommy.

You can find a KZbin video from (I believe) an epidemiologist explaining how Joel was right, did he but know it, as you can’t immunise against a fungus (if I recall the explanation correctly, I can’t find the video to confirm just now). It just adds another layer to the whole mess. I hope it comes up in the third game.

To me, ellie immediately going after Nora is the red flag that maaaaaybe Ellie’s starting to get overly obsessive about taking out Abby. Dina asks if she’s going right now, because Ellie and Jessie literally JUST got back, and she’s already set on going back out.

I really liked your insight on the conviction in Joel's voice in doubling down on the lie. However, I had a slightly different interpretation on what was happening: It's not just that he had convinced himself of a lie-when he says the words "there was no cure" he's quite literally telling the truth. For him, sacrificing Ellie is such a non-option that it doesn't even exist as a possibility for him. If a cure meant letting her die, then in Joel's mind, "there was no cure", full stop.

Ellie and Dina's conversation about Nora mirroring Ellie questioning Joel about the Fireflies and the cure, GOD the writing is so good. "Anything else you'd like to rehash?" "No." "Good." "What?" "Nothing." "Good."

Also maybe because the new seasons starts soon and/or my phone knows I’m watching reactions to the game, I got an advert for a book “The Last of Us and Philosophy: Look for the Light” sounds quite interesting actually. Might be something you’d also find interesting. I’ve added to cart to sleep on it (2025 the year for less impulse buys haha)

Gabe, What was left of humanity isn’t worth an Ellie- multiply that with what Joel has been through, I would do the same. What I take out from this is life moves on - the earth is even more beautiful without humans. There were billions of years of it without us. In terms of intelligence, one could argue that the fungus is superior - only has a different set of goals.

Joe must be a doctor to say there was no cure how the hell does he know how can Ellie know the truth when she was unconscious at the time joe convinced himself that the lie was the only way to to tell Ellie that there was no cure and she should never know the truth.Seen a lot of people play this game and everyone’s says something different thanks see what you think 🤔 when you play Nora’s story to then bye 🙋♂️
