Yeah. On one hand, Ellie is absolutely justified in feeling how she feels. She was allowed to feel angry and she definitely was allowed to set that boundary and demand space from him. It just sucks that circumstances happened the way they did re: his death, because now she's left feeling unresolved re: their relationship. Which is why she's going at this whole revenge quest so hard. Not only did she lose Joel, but she also lost her ability to mend her relationship with him.

Ashley Johnsons delivery of 'Its me' when Ellie bangs on the theatre door is masterful. The weight of what she managed to convey with just two words is absolutely incredible. She is so so talented, wow. PS. Brilliant assessment of the the emotional themes of the game so far at the end, the complexity of Joel and Ellies relationship makes her journey for revenge for his death so so much deeper than we first thought.

I've never understood why this is difficult for anyone, I think it's the exception not the rule for it to be, and it's beyond pretentious that Naughty Dog thinks that's what they accomplished. it's not a "choice" by the player as a moral agent within the game. The "choice", such as it is, is "play the entire game with its narrative that is entirely on rails that you spent $60 on" or "arbitrarily stop in the middle because you're moralizing over pixels the game didn't actually give you any control over" It's nonsense. And for that matter, it wasn't hard to push the button at all. Nora and her crew had it coming. And it worked - she *did* give up her friend. My only hope is that Ellie left her broken shattered body alive to fully experiencing turning.

@@danh8804I know how you feel, since it wasn’t difficult for me, either. However, just because we haven’t experienced it, doesn’t mean it wasn’t difficult for anybody. @kylemoore86115 сағат бұрын
@@danh8804 I see this take a lot and I just want to say I don't think ND wanted to make it feel like this was YOUR choice and to make you feel bad that you chose to do all this. Rather, it wants you to feel the weight of the choice that ELLIE is making by having you do it in her shoes, whether you agree with what she is doing or not.
@danh88049 сағат бұрын
@ but again your only “choice” about the narrative in TLOU 2 is to buy and play the game at all. ND did all they could to accomplish that within the first two hours. And don’t even get me started on the ludonarrative dissonance between Cutscene Ellie, for whom beating Nora is a moral event horizon, and Gameplay Ellie who is less Murder Hobo and more Biblical Angel of Death

Something that people usually overlook about Ellie is that she suffers from "Survivor s Guilt", which is a mental condition that affect people surviving a massive trauma. She talks about about it at the end of the first game: she feels guity of being alive after Riley s death, then Tess, Sam etc.. So Joel didnt just "lied to her", he also took away from her the only thing that could have redeemed herself from still being alive.. And now she owes the whole Humanity. Everyone that gets infected is on her, because she didnt die in that hospital.. She kind of let that slip when she and Joel found the teenagers in the dinner.. "if only they were immune, right?"

i feel like knowing you could have saved/had a vaccine for everyone and that was taken from you would make anyone feel HORRIBLE even if she would thank joel for what he done you'd still think of it every time you see an infected, that is A LOT to process but i think it goes even further than survivor's guilt, she's literally effed up over having the cure and not being able to do anything about it
@ashleyl3699Күн бұрын
no she doesn't. that's just what Joel is trying to convince her in order to make her stop questioning. Ellie completely rejects it. in fact when Joel tries to gaslight her into believing that's what she's feeling, she angrily shuts him up and interrupts him to demand he cut the bullshit and just tell her what he did. she is telling Joel that her death already happened, and she wants the miracle of her survival to stop the deaths of all the people she loves, like Riley, and Tess, and Sam, and the many more to come. she's trying to tell him why she's okay with dying, because for her, her turn already did come, and she wants her survival to mean something. she's not guilty about surviving, she's hopeful that she will save others through her surviving, and Joel took that opportunity to save everybody she loves away from her.

There are two main parts that are amazing. One, that can work only on this medium and the other one that is an amazing point of story telling. The first one is where you hit Nora. You are forced to feel the weight of every blow that you deliver, so much that you can (I did) end up shaking like Ellie. The second one is in Seattle when she keeps rewinding the tape, hoping to hear something different than "even if we find some other immune". She loves Joel so much that she can't believe what she's listening to, that she's hoping that she got it wrong. This game is layer, after layer, after layer of story telling. Oh god it never grows old.

Much like she recounted at the end of Part I, she feels survivor's guilt from being the sole immune person, the one who was "left behind." Riley, Tess, Henry, Sam, the mother she never knew, Marlene. And now this betrayal from Joel, a betrayal of her trust and autonomy as a person.

Tips & Tricks Monday! Don't forget that you can attach/detact ur silencer whenever you want. Removing it when stealth isnt necessary goes a long way. Lets talk about melee weapons! They each have a certain number of attacks b4 breaking. Ax for example has 5 or 6. U can see this represented below the icon on ur HUD. Typically u hit an enemy twice to kill them unless theyre stunned. Thatyll take away 2 of its 6 durability. When u upgrade the weapon every hit is a strike that will kill the enemy. You could kill 2-3 people with the regular ax but upgraded u can kill 5-6. Advanced Tip. If you use the ax for a few kills (bringing the durability from 6 down to 2 for example) THEN upgrade it, it will repair its durability back to full as well. More bang for ur buck. Watching you drop a fully upgraded machete for a non-graded one, then dropping a fully upgraded ax for a shotel, then dropping your fully upgraded pickaxe for a standard ax was something else lol. Not to mention all the resources you used to upgrade all those weapons and then not use any of them lol. Take advantage of those melee weapons baby! Bonus tip. Your wasting so many health kits. Outside the hospital you used a kit to bring you from 20% health up to 90% health. Then immediately used another kit to heal that last little sliver of your health bar. You're picking up what I'm putting down lol. Hopefully this is coming across as helpful and not as critiquing, im truly enjoying watching u experience these games Gabe!

Hey Gabe, loving your channel, already seeing other gameplays! I’m sending you love from Brasil 🇧🇷 Just some tips for the combat here: - You don’t need to waste bricks/ bottles or bullets to break the glasses, you can just press square and Ellie will hit it with her arm and break the glass. - Humans can se your flashlight, so when trying to play stealth against humans you need to turn it off. Infected don’t see it, so you can always leave it on when fighting them. - If you wait to improve your melee when it’s almost out of hits it regenerates completely, so it’s nice to use it first and then improve it because it’s like you have two melee’s in one. - You need to pull the bow completely before shooting so it’s more accurate. I hope you love this game as much as I do, it’s my absolute favorite ❤️
@ChibiHoshiDragonКүн бұрын
It is the butt of her switchblade, not her arm, but yeah, save the brick/bottle for quick throws to stun enemies and run towards them to use a melee weapon for a 1 hit kill even with regular, non-upgraded, weapons. Melee weapons do not just regenerate when almost out. (regenerate implies it happens on its own). If you wait to upgrade your melee when it's almost out of hits, you recover the used hits and they become stronger. You have to time the upgrade to right before it breaks to get the most usage out of it, but this risks losing the melee weapon altogether if you are bad at timing upgrades and it breaks before you upgrade. Love from Alagoas

I assume what hurt Ellie the most is that someone she respected and loved took away something very important from her-the right to decide, to choose. Ironically, it wasn't just Joel; this is exactly what Marlene and the Fireflies had done as well-they didn't let Joel and Ellie say their goodbyes, and they didn't ask Ellie about her permission to sacrifice her life in pursuit of a noble goal that could potentially save all humankind. The way she sees it, she was deprived of an opportunity to do something she couldn't do for Riley and many others she held dear. She was willing to risk everything to silence her guilt, her grief. Joel didn't just deprive her of a choice; he shattered her sense of purpose, making her feel like a spectator of her own life.
@odile870113 сағат бұрын
Yeah: she kinda lets Marlene off the hook, when Marlene was ALSO taking away her actual choice. Though I suppose it’s easier to forgive someone for making the choice for you that you would’ve made given the choice, then it is to forgive the person who made the choice for you that you wouldn’t have. But that’s why, as much as I wouldn’t say Joel did the right thing, I also don’t feel bad for the Fireflies. The only chance they had to survive was letting Ellie tell Joel that this is what she wanted, and they couldn’t be bothered to give her that.

The last flashback is so heartbreaking because you realize Joel & Ellie may not have been on good terms when he died, adding guilt & shame as extra motivation to Ellie's mission. She already had survivor's guilt by the end of game 1, and it comes to a head with the truth. But now the shame and "what-if's" of would Joel have died if she didn't push him away, what if they were on good terms and she was on patrol with Joel that day? - and so on. Could this mission to find Abby be Ellie's way to prove to him in death that she cared?
