Hillcrest is my favorite gameplay sequence in the whole game. The overgrown surburbia and the lore is absolutely fantastic. As you play, you can really feel Ellies rage and obsession starting to build. I love how naughty dog builds the the intensity as you get closer and closer to the car chase scene. Which by the way is probobly my favorite action cut scene of all time. So well done!!

Same but I think the soundtrack that plays through the sequence helps make it extra intense- it builds up and builds up and then boom! It’s called “The WLF” by MacQuayle- definitely give it a listen if you’re looking for some motivation in your ear holes!

Same here. I often restart the entire area after the truck scene. Music that kicks in gets the adrenaline flowing. Just perfect. Reminds me of Sicario main theme.

Hey little tip for fighting humans :) They follow you by sight and sound. You'd be surprised that even if you shoot and kill one, sprinting away and repositioning will help you greatly. They always go to your last location, one thing I absolute love about the NPCs in this game. You could be a ghost and still go in guns blazing. Hope this helps, thanks for the content gabe!

So, here's a little bit of trivia: Even before the leaks, Naughty Dog was so worried that people had already guessed that Joel died in this game that they created fake scenes for many of their trailers, to throw people off the scent so to speak. That scene of Ellie landing and someone grabbing her and covering her mouth? In one of the game trailers, they had replaced Jesse... with JOEL.

I don’t know why they bothered tbh- I reckon once most of us who’d played the first game heard they were making a second part, knew that Joel’s past would come back to bite him. I know I did anyway. I originally thought some of Ellie/Joel interaction teasers were clips from the game and he was already dead and she was talking to him as like a guiding, ghostly type mentor in her head while on her road to vengeance. Plus, I was still able to enjoy the “how” and “why”

54:15 I'm obsessed with the chaos of this, but just a tip: you only need to throw one molotov in this type of scenario. If a runner (or sometimes clicker) has to run past the fire from your molotov, they'll just catch fire and die. So if there's a molotov fire in a doorway, they'll all eventually catch fire by walking through it. Just in case you're low on supplies later on!

So the silencer is a plastic bottle, not exactly built for durability. You can see 3 dashes on the UI next to the silencer image. That's how long it lasts. Having a silencer that just lasts would be crazy unbalanced

I’ve been kind of watching your videos in a backwards manner, starting with TLOU 2 and then watching your TLOU 1 playthrough while i wait for the next video. Something struck me while watching part 11 when Joel found the small grave outside of Jackson. Ellie wanted to discuss recent events, and Joel said “things happen and we move on.” I really like how you compared the game’s structure to Joel’s philosophy, with quick cuts to the next scene because there is not really any time to process his feelings. But now, seeing you play this game in Ellie’s shoes, we see a scene of her grieving Joel and throughout the whole game there are these flashbacks. It’s like the game’s structure shifted to match how she processes her feelings. It’s just really cool.

Great episode Gabe! My first playthrough of this part, I remember hardly killing anyone and just sneaking or running past them because I was so stressed about the dogs lol. Just got to the other side or checkpoint and kept moving 😂. It’s actually interesting that you can move through most “levels” without killing anyone.. if you choose to. Less fun to some degree maybe, but a different challenge nonetheless.

There are two parties to this arguement imagine waiting 8 years for a sequel, no word on where one of the main characters are, only seeing him in the opening announcement in what appears to be a ghost version of him. Finally getting a reveal trailer showing him but when the actual game comes out he's not there he is replaced by jesse " you think i would let you do this on your own" that is exactly what happens in that section. Personally it does not bother me as a fan of p1 because i saw the vision of not wanting to spoil the story and also kinda has meta narrative of the lie ellie has to live with... However, there are people that dispise it to this very day because of that scene...

@r3zuri i dont agree that its false advertising though, its more of a not spoiling the story...movies and games do this all the time. joel is still in the story a huge amount and is key to the actual story. False advertisement to me is something like cyberpunk showing things that didnt even make it into the game until years later or at all or not allowing consumers to make a solid purchase by hiding the ps4 and xbox versions saying they work well when they clearly know they dont...but which one did fans forgive? its something fans will never agree on and that is totally fine because it adds to the debate...

Loving this series. A lil tippy tip: when you pick up notes, always check the back. There are some serious clues and lore drops on the back sometimes. Also, rotate objects. You never know what you’ll see. 👍🏼😉
