To address the "very white" comment above: I am a Black (and white, mixed) woman sailor who was first inspired to get a boat when I saw Maiden Trip in 2014. Laura, your accomplishment was amazing and you continue to inspire me with the videos of this new project! After seeing Laura's story I read dozens of solo sailing memoirs and singlehanded my boat often. I noticed how disproportionally white the sailing community is, due to the larger inequalities in society as a whole. And that is not meant to diminish Laura's accomplishment or criticize her. But, I still wanted to combine my passion for solo sailing with being an example that it is possible for women of color to achieve great things in sailing. About 5 years ago, I formed a goal of my own, to become the first Black woman to circumnavigate the globe solo, currently planning my second attempt to circumnavigate Vancouver Island solo (first attempt ended after 400 miles due to engine failure near a lee shore, and the season changing to more dangerous weather than I was ready for). Hi :) As you can see from the previous two comments there are some video's out from our most recent journey already and I'm definitely working on more. However some patience is needed as I make all the videos myself besides running our foundation and of course caring for the children, teenagers and our ship Guppy, which I have to admit stand way higher on my list of priorities ;) Laura Dekker
