George played a venue I worked at. We had to pick him up at the airport. Most performers felt it was what they were supposed to get and took us for granted. Not George. He chatted with the driver (45 minute ride), rode in front and tipped the driver $50. A couple months later he was gone. Will remember him as one of the good guys we delt with.
@OmniMonitorАй бұрын
I wonder about this. I don't feel comfortable talking to strangers. Like it's just stressful and I am usually wrapped up in my own thoughts. So, if someone picked me up from the airport and I did not talk with them I'm guessing that would be considered rude. Also, it kind of sounds like it was your job, and it was what was expected. It's just strange these kinds of perspective shits. Like everyone is the same so you can assume if you want to talk to someone and they don't want to talk to you it's a slight.

When I was a teenager I bought George Carlin's comedy album. It was hilarious and I have loved him since then. He did a routine about a man who had a beard. He was talking about an older man who apparently didn't approve of it. He told his wife, "He's got a BEARD, Marge, a BEARD! My mom thought that was so funny, and throughout my adult life, she and I used this as comedic relief. She was 93 when she passed, but she still loved George Carlin.

The THINKING MANS COMIC
@krkhns3 ай бұрын
There was a specific reason for the books "Brain Droppings" and "Napalm and Silly Putty". Protecting his material. Copyright law. Its all his material in written form. People usually have the wrong idea how royalties work for a performance. Anyone can get on a stage and perform another person's material and not pay royalties, as long as they do not ask for a percentage of the ticket receipts. The venue is responsible for paying the royalties since they are the one's profiting off the performance. The performer is just getting paid to do a job. And, you don't pay the artist directly, you pay a fee to a collection association like BMI or ASCAP. They pay the original artist. Can take years in some cases to get paid. Works the same way with musicians, but musicians have sheet music that covers them if another artist uses their song. You're violating their copyright on the sheet music. George took that idea and applied it to his material. His books are his routines in written form. If you use his material, you are violating the copyright on the book and can be sued.
