A formal education does means something, It means you were educated according to certain standards. What you do with that education though is what matters and yes you can do nothing with it. Also & what I believe you mean is, formal education is not the end all of education. One can become educated in many ways and not just formally. In addition, just because one is formally educated does not mean they are intelligent.

Today, George Carlin would be 88 years old. Though there have been many really great comedians, none that did it like him. He is the greatest comedian of all time ! I remember watching him as a 10-12 year old child in the early 1960's on the Steve Allen Show. Later in the 60's, he was a star on the Ed Sullivan Show with more appearances then anyone. In the 70's, I had the true pleasure of seeing him live in Las Vegas. By then, my mother thought he was filthy, so my dad would watch him late at night on HBO with the volume very low and we'd try to keep our laughter down. He was great whether his act was clean or off color. By then, the so called "bad words" he used were not as shocking to the 70's generation. He was a genius with comedy, but a very serious man off stage. His perspectives on many subjects really hit the lifestyle of the 1970's, and mostly have come true. He could "undress" his audience as soon as he came on stage and from that point forward he had you in the palm of his hand ! There will never be another George Carlin, but I wish there were !!
