I've noticed this on my sticks too. But there is also more damage on mine further down the stick,... I like rim shots. lol

i think peart had the right idea when he played w the big ends. theres really no need to use the beaded end in rock. they just widdle away and break a lot quicker and even damage the heads more and quicker. i think beaded/tapered sticks are kind of a scam so that drummers have to buy more sticks and heads, unnecessarily.

sticksbass i agree in rock drumming, but in things like jazz and surf the beaded heads make a HUGE difference.
