Check it out here:
Much like the awesome D20, the new Revv G20 features all of the amazing functionality but with some new programmable features, and a hell of a lot more gain on tap!
Very impressive line of amps, and the built in TwoNotes Loadbox makes this amp too good to overlook!

For over 40 years I have been buying and selling amps in search of this sound. Isn't that like insanity? trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results? I have finally figured it out. I buy the G20, and have Rabea come over and shred it for me," nailed It"! Great review Rabea, I love your playing and demeanor.

Given that it's basically a tube amp with a built-in loadbox and IR and you can use it to interface and record directly. All you'd really need from there is your axe of choice and effects pedals you'd like. For small, more quiet, well sounding, home studio application that can do a fair bit of live potential as well. This thing, given all the bells and whistles you have on a tube amp, it justifies its price very well. I am now looking forward to acquiring one myself. Given that it can hold its own fairly well on clean tones but can do high gain in such a versatile and easy to use manner. I am pretty sure many will consider this amp from now on as a viable way of home recording on a raised budget but which is justified by the potential it opens up. Great job Revv and great job Bea for a concise and to the point review! Cheers!

It's really cool how Revv took a good tube amp with amazing clean and the one of the very best metal sounds, and added just enough tech to highly advance what you can do, without making it over complicated. Being able to have cabs built into my amp is so cool so I always have them. I like that software, it looks very "user friendlly". This will be my next amp.

So I'm a bit of a tube amp enthusiast, but I also love versatility and usually end up using modeling gear on stage and reserving my tube amps for when they exactly fit the gig I'm going to. The thing is, modeling has become so good, and downright affordable, that I'm now exclusively running VST based modeling and just toss my laptop and interface in my pedal bag and I'm good to go. I take the amp/pa that I need for the venue and I'm golden. In smaller coffee shop or smaller based venues I'm actually just running through a bluetooth speaker, and the tone is unreal, and far better than any of my modeling amps of old. When I need more power, I just cart a Bass Amp/PA combo and I've got volume for any larger venue. I've recently downsized, and actually sold ALL my tube amps before moving my household. I thought that I'd probably only buy tube amps in the future to use in my own home studio use case, and likely end up sticking to modeling on stage forever. ....this amp might change that mindset. I can definitely see me being able to utilize this for nearly everything you could ever need. Damn, I guess there goes my next tax refund.

Oh, I was going to say Rabea, the one thing you don't really call out specifically, is how touch sensitive the amp is (or not). Considering Revv's reputation I imagine it's good, but this is generally a HIGH area of interest to me. Most of my presets end up falling to two categories, high gain and almost pure clean. In my high gain presets I'm setting the gain as high as I can, while retaining the the ability to get the amp to clean up rolling my volume down and being in the right volume ballpark. In most situations, as by dynamics drop, I want cleaner tone and I don't want to bother with preset switching, I want to ride my volume with the flow of the band. MOST good amps do this just fine. Then for my clean tones I want just the slight ability to overdrive it if I push has hard as I can, usually with a volume boost of some sort. This way again, if the dynamics of the song go to eleven, even my clean tones can get some grit to fit the feeling. I'm willing to bet this amp handles these scenarios like a champ, because that's one of the things the D20 is known for. I doubt I'll get perfect "high gain" dynamics I like with the gain fully cranked, but would probably be great just slightly rolled off. Giving you MOST of the gain the amp offers, while retaining miles of touch tone to play with.

I'd ask the Joker's famous rhetorical question to Batman (from the first Tim Burton movie), "Where does he get those wonderful toys?!" but more to the point is the question: What do you do with them all? Is there such a thing as "too much gear?" I imagine if a piece of gear is no longer used, you might pass it on to a friend, but what do you do with gear you no longer use? Inquiring (and a little envious) musicians want to know! Cheers, Rabea. Keep up the excellent gear vids and music (LOVE the ambient tunes)!

So what would you choose in comparsion to the D20? If the G20 is able to be a great pedal platform with its clears, whats the strength of the D20? Is there anything in terms of cleans that I miss with the G20? Also would you say a D20 with one of the G-Pedals would be able to get these nice modern tones aswell? It sounded really nice in the D20 review though. Also, very nice review as always, good to see that you fixed the comments.
@gregmerritt9366

I think, with the G20, you save a few hundred, as opposed to getting the D20 and all three G series distortion pedals.
@broncoxy
@broncoxy 4 жыл бұрын
Greg Merritt Well but what if I'd get only one (I think Rabea recommended the G2 with it)? I mean I don't think the G20 covers all three pedals as well...
@gregmerritt9366
@gregmerritt9366 4 жыл бұрын
@@broncoxy Very good questions to bring up, no doubt about that. When I saw Ola's video, I made the assumption that the aggression switches on the G20 were the pedals placed on board, but looking into it, all three pedals have an aggression switch. Plus Bea said the distortion was specifically designed after the purple channel. That being said, that extra few hundred might just buy more tonal flexibility. What's a few hundred when one is already dropping a grand. Glad we're this having conversation. At that price point, we'd want to make an informed decision for sure. I'll do my best to report anything I find out on this thread.
@broncoxy
@broncoxy 4 жыл бұрын
Greg Merritt Thanks. I think as the D20 being reported as being a very nice pedal platform, it brings any versatility you could get from a pedal with it. The real question is if the G20 brings this same capabilites with it and how the cleans from the D20 are different or more versatile. Cause I think with pedals you'd compensate missing OD from the D20 better than missing Cleans from the G20. However, if the G20 is just a D20 with an OD, then its a no-brainer. But seeing the Gainknob doing nothing on the Clean channel I highly doubt that all they did was add a gain channel. But I'll await other reviews, now that NAMM's around the corner...

Hey dude! It's all about form factor. We first released D20 not only because we were focused on a great clean / crunch amp for this small, Two-notes loaded platform, but also because our high gain pedals also work amazing on it. Some of our international touring metal artists use D20 + G3 as their main tone. We were asked by a lot of customers though for a high gain version. A lot of them said they don't like to use pedals. So G20 came about as another option. Of course when designing it we didn't want to phone it in (we spent all year on it just about!) so it became something really cool and unique. I've been playing both D20 and G20 a lot. I would say if your focus is our Dynamis style clean and you like pedals the D20 is the option and it will sound just great for high gain with high gain pedals - if you want all your gain in the amp and a more modern squeaky clean then G20 is for you. At the end of the day it's just about looking at what your rig would be like with either and which would facilitate you making music the best.

What ALL these G20 videos don't show you is this: 1.) When you make a G20 purchase-You get Torpedo Wall of Sound and "Not" Torpedo Remote-which has the software in this video. This has the software with EQ, Compression etc. The Software needs to be registered to the unit itself as well-either Wall of Sound or Torpedo Remote-A very convoluted and obfuscated process! 2.) You find a cabinet/sound you like-Depending on your guitar and the cab-it will sound like this in the video-Don't be alarmed if they all sound the same. You need a physical cabinet to hear the subtle changes you make. Studio monitors can only work so far! You need to make changes to Tubes (valves) and mic placement to get the sound that he is getting. 3.) Switching cabs with the rotary switch is a crap shoot as you can save the cab while in Torpedo Remote-but if you press save (push the Store button and-wait for flashing red light )button on the amp? It's a Crap shoot if your setting/saving changes. I can see getting comfortable with doing this and then go over to a friend's house and run an XLR out the back of the G20 into a Bose PA hoping you get that nice BDeluxe amp that you saved for Rhythm and Lead. Big Surprise-chances are you still have what you got when you unboxed the unit! 4.) Torpedo Wall of Sound-In your DAW, you drag it over to your track. Open it up (Before you ever knew you needed Torpedo Remote) and you get some nice cabs to record-but don't expect to make any changes. You get Arcade mode and Simulation mode. If you like what you created in Simulation mode-go ahead and record. When you move back to Arcade mode-all changes-Gone! 5.) Playing live with foot switch (separate purchase)-Until the software starts to work (making and saving cabs from Torpedo Remote to the Amp etc and working with a foot switch) I am going to hold off using this on any live gig! last thing I want to do is buy another laptop. 6.) Manuals-The G20 manual is an addendum from the D20-so you need to switch between the two. No word on Torpedo Remote manual yet-still looking for that! 7.) If you don't mind the frustration and still want to record-The G20 still has some nice cab simulations.

I'm looking at buying either a D20 or G20 soon - am I right to think that the G20 is the better way to go so you can get multiple different styles and tones without pedals, but still have a pedal platform? Hey Rabbea, 11:04 you mentioned speaker impulses, that means in this whole demo you were listening to you playing through studio monitors? Sorry I'm just a bit confused cuz I'm trying to figure out what your signal chain is in this video 😅

I love watching your videos great gear reviews any chance you can do a video on a boutique bass amp and a videos on bass gear would be great I know your channel is for guitarists but if you can occasionally fit in bass gear it would be great

Thanks for the great demo. Question: I tend to play mostly in the realm of clean moving into bluesy breakup with a lot of pedals -- although, there are those times that I do enjoy guitar straight into amp. What is your preference between the D20 & the G20 within that realm (sort of setting aside the high gain capabilities)? I understand that the G20 provides higher gain and, in comparison that the D20 was perhaps a better pedal platform? For the $100 more in the G20, are there other features or considerations why one would just not get the G20 even if they don't need the higher gain. In another video, It was referenced that the G20 Clean channel was a bit more compressed or differently voiced (if true, not sure how that would impact pedal interactions). --- Many thanks in advance for any insights --

Hey Rabea is the clean channel the same as the d20? I really like the pedal platform of the d20 and the pull on the gain knob for crunch that was in your d20 video. I would get this to be able to do both what the d20 does and the extra gain channels for diversity.

By the way Bea, what's the single coil you've been rocking in the sig recently ? Great sounds coming from those tiny Revv lunchboxes ! And great review :)

That is a groovy sound man, cheers. I'm thinking that I would not need to have so many pedals in front of this. The physical size of it looks good and it would be quite easy to pack up and move around. What would be the ideal cabinet to match it up with?
