I'm on page 254 and it's taken me months to get that far. Because I just keep putting it down for long periods. It's such a slow paced book that I am finding it a hard slog. But at the same time I'm intrigued and want to finish it.

I know this is an old comment and I don't know if you've actually read any more, but honestly I'm on page 467, and I'm only persevering because I hate leaving a book unread, but if you aren't stubborn like me I'd put it down. The tragedy of it all feels almost comically bad, like the author is just doing it for the sake of it, and currently I'm at a "happy part", but knowing the theme if Jude is having a good time it's about to get tragically bad any moment now. Eventually it goes beyond sad (this book hasn't made me cry because nothing bad that happens to any of the characters feels remotely heartfelt or as though the author has any care for the characters at all really) to almost comical in the sheer over-the-top suffering that the author insist bestowing onto the characters.

I read the ending spoiler accidentally upon researching the TW in this book. 😢 Do you think I ruined it for myself by knowing how it ends? I have it sitting on the shelf, waiting to be read.

A Little Life is no better than the Camden novels by Bret Easton Ellis and, in some ways, is worse. Ellis maintains a sense of detachment, while Yamagihara is actively trying to manipulate the reader into crying. It might work on the younger set but I’ve seen a bit to much actual trauma and tragedy.

That's really good to know. I might need to try out those novels if I'm in the mood for something similar to A Little Life. Thank you for the recommendation

is the language simple to read?
@frenchtoastnbooks59553 жыл бұрын
It's marketed to adult readers so the language is mature and has words that can be difficult for some readers. Overall, I don't think it's simple to read but I don't think it's difficult either. I hope that helps.
