Certain parts made me physically sick, i could not read more than 50 pages in a sitting

Totally understandable. Some parts were really hard to read. I'm not quite sure where I stand with this book, but I get why some people feel it is trauma porn
@keiththebookie44233 жыл бұрын
@@sleepcreatecaffeinate6876 Well the very idea of "trauma porn" is weird to me. The way I see it if this was a non fictional book or like someone's memoir we would not be calling it trauma porn. Calling it trauma porn makes people who went through some of the things written in the book feel as though they are being invalidated. I do feel like Yanagahara was trying to establish the fact that things can get better but in the end it may not ever completely go away. I'm new to the channel but I will be subscribing for sure.

@@keiththebookie4423 Oh for sure, I totally agree with that. I think the biggest thing is including triggers and censors as I was not expecting a lot of the jarring content that happened in the book. I do think there's a danger in censoring content that can help those with lived experiences. There were part of these books that really connected with me in a real way I'd never read anywhere else and there were other parts that still haunt me because I wasn't prepared for them. Still an incredible narrative for sure. And welcome to channel!
