@@Maghanashi the trip would have taken something like 3hours by car road trip, the taxi fare would have cost more than 50 bucks in the States I think. It cost me more to get to an airport from within a city in the US :/ For a relaxing boat ride instead, I think the cost is pretty good value; these ferries don't really make their money from car-less passengers - its transporting cars and trucks they charge an arm and a leg for, because there's often no better alternative. EDIT: Just thought about it some more and I think for this ferry in particular, if I needed to share the "First Class" room I wouldn't have felt like 50 bucks is worth it. As it is, its fine, but if the room becomes shared I think the value proposition plummets. For me at least, I don't know if the Japanese mind sharing the room as much as I would.

The idea of passenger ferries being so massive and having cabins to spend the night in is just so foreign to me. It's really interesting. In the U.S. passenger ferries only take you short distances, have no rooms for passengers and are very small in comparison. The closest i can think of are cruise ships but those are far less industrial looking than these. Cool videos. :)

I hope the ferry clearly explains what "1st Class" really is, otherwise I would imagine some very unhappy travelers. As it seems to be the difference in 1st to 2nd class is that you may get a mat to lay on and you share a smaller floor with less people.

I would hope they explain that most rooms are shared (potentially). Maybe the "Special Room" is private? No way I'm lying on the floor next to up to six other strangers. And imagine everyone trying to decide what to watch on TV, or to watch the TV at all lmao.

The ferry was nice and clean, but since transportation is so expensive, perhaps it would have been good to save 2500 yen and go 2nd class. On a 2 hour and 45 minute trip, you really don't need to take a nap when there are lounges where you can sit. The scenery was very nice, especially enjoyed the steam rising from the Beppu hot springs. You made a good choice with the chanpon noodles and the fried rice. I would have liked to try them both. Nice video, see you in the next one. 😊

Bear in mind I'm not Japanese so I'm not certain, but from what I know, this is the traditional layout of a room. The area near the door is for removing shoes which must be taken off before standing on the carpet. The carpeted area is then multi purpose, you could have cushions and a small table for eating, then pack them away and use the space for lounging, and then put out the bed at night.
@healsohard20902 жыл бұрын
@@liamholcroft7212 ive watched 50-100 ferry videos i understand what a traditional japanese room looks like i have never seen this on a first class product on a ferry.

@@healsohard2090 50 - 100? You must really be a fan of ferries. When I say traditional, I don't mean for a ferry I mean in a house. So yes it is strange, but not in the context of being in Japan where people will be more used to this kind of layout.
