I have Wyze cams and have been looking at smart locks, I like this one better than Wyze’s other door lock. I like how it’s not wifi connected and like the fingerprint sensor and keypad. Makes me feel better that an actual locksmith tested it and thinks it’s ok. I might actually pick one up. Like the review.

This saying has some credibility, however, a lot of crooks are just lazy opportunists. If you make it more difficult than average for someone to get into something, chances are it will be left alone by a lot of would be thieves.

Just bought one and installed it in under 10 minutes. We don’t have Wi-Fi where I live and it’s one of the few options I found, and prefer a non-Wi-Fi device anyways. Super easy to set up on the app, and already had a brushed nickel handle so that works great. No adjustment to lengthen the bolt needed, the hole was where it needed to be. So far on the first day I love the product.

So I have this same lock, this only works correctly from the right login to the left. However, this guy has entered the lock mechanism he was able to do it properly when you’re connected to Wi-Fi, you put in a passcode you can lock it with finger but it’s very tricky. You can unlock it by clicking the lock button on bottom left without any fingerprint or passcode. I have emailed Wyze but never got a response I had the same issue where when to install the lock, I cannot

Mine will be in tomorrow and I am replacing my almost $200 Ultraloq U-Lock which I have had nothing but problems with!! It would randomly just stop working (usually in the unlocked position and we would leave assuming that it was locking behind us) and finally got that replaced under warranty and then less than a year later my replacement is now saying it is jammed when it doesn't even try to lock or unlock! Then when I contacted them about it they said that the replacement only has a 3 month warranty? Luckily I got the extra Home Depot warranty so I will hopefully be able to return it and get my $180 back and then install this $80 lock (I got on Amazon for faster delivery)... I have several cameras, the watch and sprinkler controller through Wyze and have had no issues with any of them! I do wish and am somewhat concerned that there is no back up key if it dies or something happens...

I'd guess that the one time codes basically behave like a long list of codes stored in the lock and app, where only the next code will work (this is how the app can give such a code even though it has no communication with the lock). Thus, instead of the thief having a 1 in a million chance of finding your combination by chance, they have double that. Hardly significant.
@walterdexter9168
@walterdexter9168 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed with the implementation, but concerned about how they assigned them per device on the manufacturing line. Hopefully it's not "all the devices made today have the same sequence of codes." Even if random, if it's not a good seed, it's probably something that could be worked out. At the point someone is doing that, though, it'd be easier to just take a hammer to it and open it mechanically.
@gblargg
@gblargg 2 жыл бұрын
@@walterdexter9168 Right, I'd assume that it's a deterministic random number generator with a shared seed, and hopefully one of sufficient entropy that's generated when you pair it.

how does that one time code work. It must be like the authentication apps and fobs, where there is a list of predefined numbers related to the serial number and then the app always know what the next valid number in the lock is

Yep, it would seem to be the same as an authenticator. You can generate up to 16 one-time codes every 4 hour block of time (e.g. between 8 am and 12 pm, then again at 12:01 pm to 4 pm, etc.). I have a feeling it's the way the algorithm was designed to enable offline functionality - you don't need to be within Bluetooth range to generate codes, which makes sense from a user's point of view.

It is built of metal for what it's worth. Obviously the size of the lock and it being flat across the top might allow it but it does sit higher than the actual hole. I think it would be pretty difficult to do actually based on the fact that regular deadbolts "just" cover the hole, and this has a much larger surface area. However you can't really say any "similar" smart lock couldn't be crowbarred as well. Or anything...

@@selock yeah, and then we get into the ever present fact no lock is foolproof given enough time and effort. being a gun guy imo locks are just to give me time to get to a aherm, weapon if I am home and someone is busting in. For that matter there are windows all over the place, including one on the back door within easy reach of the deadbolt controls (granted the backyard is fenced). I've decided this probably isnt a huge concern, and like we say probably could be done as or almost as easily to a standard deadbolt anyway. Or someone (a burly man)can likely kick any deadbolt in easy enough. Again the point is to slow him down (make it take a few kicks) and make as large a commotion as possible realistically! I definitely ran the 3" wood screws into my studs on the strike plate, and also got a reinforced strike plate though, thats easy, cheap, and makes the door much more secure.

Yeah the new bolt one seems very nice, but technically speaking the old one is better in a few ways. The only downside to the old one is that the keypad is an add-on could be stolen and you need to replace batteries separately I guess.. though that can be an advantage as well because your normal key still works. The new one definitely looks sleeker though and it's nice how both parts are integrated together if you don't mind ditching the key completely.
