Some food for thought. ANSI Grade 3 deadbolts are tested to withstand 800,000 openings and closings. The size of the latch bolt is 5/8 of an inch, and the deadbolt will hold up against two strikes of 75 pounds of force. Not a whole lot of protection against a couple good kicks.
@cryengine_x2 жыл бұрын
No lock cant be defeated. It's just a question of delaying an intruder. I recommend a firearm be ready if needed after that. i put a reinforced strike plate and 3" screws into the studs on my deadbolts. it should slow anybody trying to kick it in pretty well i figure. until i can get to other means of protection.

I'm not from the US (our locks are quite a bit different)... So I might be wrong, but couldn't someone technically pull the front of the Wyze lock from of the door to expose the deadbolt inside the door and twist the lock manually (@3:01) with a flat-head screwdriver to unlock the door?
@Raincity87902 жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes, someone could pull the front of the Wyze lock, but that means they could also pull off the front of ANY bolt lock. The time, effort and tool required to yank the front of the lock off is roughly the same for the Wyze lock and a traditional lock. If someone wanted to, they could kick the door in and forget about messing with the lock. There are many ways to enter a house in the US. For example, houses here tend to have lots of windows. Most also have a back patio with a sliding glass door that have weak locks. If someone wants to get in, they will.
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
It is held by 2 machines screws from the inside like any other deadbolt. You are better off destroying the door by force than mess with the lock.
@johnszatkowski68982 жыл бұрын
The other thing you want to do is reinforce your door jams! EVERY lockset only has the piddily 5/8" long screws into the door jam and these can be "kicked-in" with VERY little force. If you buy reinforced faceplates for your locks these come with 3" or longer screws that screw into the studs and increase the strength of a door BIG-TIME!

Just got this installed yesterday and as a semi-sorta-smart lock it does pretty good. I wish it at least also had the auto-unlock feature found on the Wyze Lock. Maybe in the future they'll come out with a wifi version of this.
@Chrislk19862 жыл бұрын
I'd think they could add auto-unlock in a firmware update. Though I could see an issue with battery life (constant lock/unlock while going in/out of BT range). I'm no app engineer, but there should be a way to setup a geofence within the app and unlock once within BT range of the lock. This would negate constant lock/unlock if out of BT range as long as the phone is aware of location and therefore not sending an unlock request. I'm sure they'll come out with a WiFi version, but I'm pretty sold on this one. Hopefully I can swap out the faceplate for the latch with one of the spare matte black that I have lying around. Not sure why they didn't match it with the rest of the hardware.

Make sure you have access thru a back door. While I realize it's not the same, I had an electronically locked safe in the office ( at work ) where the plastic assembly that is connected to the electronics failed. In order to pull the contents out, ended up literally destroying the door using a hammer, chisel and prybar. Not fun. Biggest issue is- ensure you have another way into your house. A second lock of the same nature is not a bad idea however; as one lock will have more use than the other. But always have a second means of access.

I really want to like this lock but, no failover key could really be an issue. For example, how many people "walk" around with a backup battery and a USB C cable? What if I ignored the "low battery" and now I cant get into my home? This could happen (If I decided not to carry my keys). On the other hand, there is NO lock to pick! This is why I'm on the fence with this. The price is GREAT for a smartlock as most others are $200 and up! The other deal-breaker for me is the lack of a color choice. All the doors in my home are white (as many homes are) and this black finish will REALLY stick out like a sore thumb! A white or silver finish option would be better but not for the buttons as the oil from your fingers would discolor lighter colored buttons. Also, Bluetooth also poses some "security" issues as there are vulnerabilities. The last thing is it's hard to trust Wyze now after it was revealed that they had camera "hacking" issues for 2years+ and never said anything about it! This is why they "retired" the V1 cameras. The ol saying of "cheaper" is not always better is what the voice in my head is telling me with this lock. How "secure" is this lock against a hammer? Could it be "compromised" easily and just break-off the outside shell and just turn the deadbolt? I don't know if I'd want to trust my life with this product.

Well, if you happen to get locked out, your choices would be: If you have a conventional lock, call a locksmith and let him/her pick or drill it, and pay $75 or more. You'll also probably wait somewhere between an hour or three to get in anyways. Go to a local retail store like walmart, pick up a cheap power bank, with a USB cable. Bring it home, perhaps charge it on your way home. Then use the USB power bank to get in. ( or go to one of your neighbors and see if they have a power bank you can borrow ) One method is cheaper than the other. Some other locks use 9V batteries that you can connect externally if the internal battery dies; how many people have 9V batteries in their pockets or vehicles ? Nope, they'd have to venture down to a local convenience store or retail store to get one. IF someone is going to use a hammer to break the lock, they'll simply kick the door in first. Probably a back door or window. I do hear you on questionable hackable electronics .. But I'd also venture to say that most thieves are NOT really that smart in the first place. I hate it when manufacturers choose their bottom line over securing their products that include software. One thing I like about the bluetooth function is the history portion. However, is the device hackable as is without pushing the pairing button ? I don't know. I also like the auto-lock function. But I would not consider the house secure with JUST a lock; for that, I'd want some security cameras hanging around, and perhaps an alarm system.
@cryengine_x2 жыл бұрын
@@starmc26 LOL no. It was 100% a beta early on. It did not work correctly with heat pumps, which only are extremely common in half the country. It was a big pain in the ass to find this out. I'm going to assume that by now theyve fixed this, but, lesson learned on Wyze. I had to ditch it and get a nest thermo (which I actually hate, but at least I know it works and is backed by google). And I'm not exactly the only one to say so, Wyze have got a bit of a shall we say reputation. I'd still buy this lock tho, except it's not wifi...still thinking it over, price is right. I buy a lot of this stuff just to play with not cus I need it, and I doubt I'll pay 200 for a Schlage or something (I live alone, in a low crime neighborhood, with little to steal etc just to be clear), it's not worth that to me. But for $70 what the hell. The no wifi is problematic though cus I always envisioned the cool scenario of someone showing up at my house...i'm away...they text, I unlock the door from where I'm at through the interwebs...I guess there are probably other ways to do this (like pre prepared codes) but ya...I'm not sure I want a smart lock if I cant do that scenario

This one is important to me in cases where the door may shift and not align properly. It is easier to have a key to manually force it to lock from the outside than trying to fight with it through a code that may not have the force I can produce with a key. I experienced this firsthand with both my current Wyze lock and Eufy lock since the issue happened to both my front and back door, but I have to admit this new lock is more aesthetically pleasing than their old one.

To me, it sounds like a somewhat false sense of security to state that it is not hackable or pickable. I'm not dissing your review and I may be thinking all wrong, I am just interested in understanding the true potential security problems if any exist. Edit: The one-time code gets my grumpy alarm bell going. A one-time code that gives a guest access even without you having a BT connection? Naaah, I may be paranoid, but this is more of a gadget to me, I can put it on a shed or something where not many valuables are stored. Especially since A G A pointed out that ANSI Grade 3 isn't that tough. Again not trying to disrespect anyone, just want to raise a flag of doubt if anyone thinks "pickproof" and "hackproof" are absolutes.

They can steal the username and password of your Wyze account but as long as they are not within 17-20 feet of the lock, they will not be able to lock or unlock. I guess they can hack your phone and also tell or convince you to get in the Bluetooth range for them to have access to it. As to the pick proof, as I said in the video... there is no keyway or key slot to pick... it can be opened by brute force, magnets, bumping, slim jim but not a key slot picking.

nothing is un-hackable....you just need to secure your WiFi network to reduce the chance of Hacking...The product looks great but I would like to see it with WFI or set it up like the previous lock with a gateway.

True but this one eliminates any hacking via the internet. I guess you can technically be around 20 feet of the device and hack Bluetooth

Not being wifi capable is HUGE drawback. Let's say you have a delivery and you are talking to the delivery person at your door through the Wyze doorbell video when you are away from the house. If only there is a way to unlock the door temporarily so that the delivery person can put the item inside your door. Hmm. I know...wifi access! Ooops! Wyze doesn't have that. Bummer. Also, I got my Schlage deadbolt keypad system for less than Wyze's. And it's wifi capable. Not good, Wyze. We expect better from Wyze.

I think the lack of WiFi is a selling point as it eliminates at least one potential access point for hackers to cause trouble. You could also set up a separate entry code and give it to a delivery driver over the phone and just delete it when you get back.

another slap in the face from wyze to its users . when will wyze learn to stop releasing new products and instead fix their older devices . first the gun safe , air purifier , and now lock . what they need to work on rn is their AI, v3 bugs , and app but instead wyze just does this . ugh wyze you’re going backwards two steps

Maybe you haven't used a Wyze product in years, your complaints are baseless.

Not made for Canada. Three locks died. 1st one the touchscreen shorted out. 2nd one the lock would constantly beep like it was being touched. 3rd one on the garage jammed inside and bent internally. Do not recommend at all under 6 months old. only kfferes a return with a gift card as a reolacement.

None of those issues sound Canada-specific...

Anything Bluetooth or wifi can be hacked

So, you want to be within 20 feet of my lock to hack Bluetooth? Go ahead.

Never install a lock like this. Always make sure there's a manual key override. You'll notice electronic locks like this have a 10 or 20 year mechanical warranty and a 1 year electronic warranty. If the electronics get fried, the battery dies, or anything like that, you'll wish you had a manual key override just in case! Talk with a locksmith about secure options.

Funny thing about people…you cannot please everyone..make one with a key slot and everybody will say..oh that is easy to pick. Make one without a key, and you will get comments like this…I think most houses if not all have 2 doors..if you are really concerned that this lock’s electronics will fail…then make sure your other door has a key slot…

I'm happy with our manual deadbolt but would want an option for keyless entry. A fingerprint is a plus. Wifi is a no no for me. Seems like schlage Camelot would fit best. Thoughts?
@kevinwitt88272 жыл бұрын
@@jonmike316 The Schalge Encode would be best. Camelot is a trim model. The Encode is one of the only grade 1 electronic deadbolts, can be used with or without wifi, and still has a durable keypad and manual key over-ride. As a bonus, your local locksmith can put a high-security cylinder in the lock, if you're worried about using standard keys.
