My personal opinion is remove the mustard colored strip on the lower right corner and replace it with a little lighter one. To me my eye is drawn to that first as it appears to stand out separate from the panel and the other lovely work you’ve already done…maybe a sand or darker cream? It’s going to be lovely when completed. 😍 Using the batiks with this panel - genius❣️💞

I have a panel featuring a heron that your idea would be perfect for! I bought extra panels and made hexagons from them but they are just too uninteresting and dark. So now I am thinking that maybe I could use a few of those lighter blocks and incorporate them with strips. Thanks for the idea and and sparking this old brain to think outside the box. 😀

I don't paperpiece log cabins.... I probably would if I was doing a tiny block. Love your idea with the log cabin borders. In the end if one of your log cabins don't fit on the top, you can use it on the back

I absolutely love the Log Cabin quilt. The colors are beautiful and I like how you are mimicking the colors of the log cabin block to each section of the panel. It would look great even with a symetrical sashing strips. I think the piece of sashing where you sewed 2 strips together to get the width you needed is perfectly fine. When women crossed the Country in wagon trains they all made do with whatever they had for fabric and had to create their own patterns, You are just following that tradition. When your quilt is completed it will be very artsey & sophisticated work of art. Glad the Engineer is home. I hope you are able to maintain your sanity and can decompress in your studio when you need it. Care taking is some of the hardest work (physically and emotionally) that a human can do. Please take care of yourself too. Things will get easier as he recovers.

If you add pine trees with the log cabins you can fill the space and be consistent with your panel. I can’t wait to see the dns results.

I love your creativity. I am look at doing an art quilt as well. I am thinking it will be a mix of many different techniques. Anyway, love the free form type quilts that have a picture on them, whether it is a piece like you have or making the picture itself. I was wondering if you have a reliable source that you order material from or you just happen to come across these materials in stores? I live in Hawaii and we are very limited in choices.
