A Look Around the Beautiful Union Station of Denver, Colorado

Denver Union Station is the main railway station and central transportation hub in Denver, Colorado. It is located at 17th and Wynkoop Streets in the present-day LoDo district and includes the historic terminal building, a train shed, a 22-gate underground bus facility, and light rail station. A station was first opened on the site on June 1, 1881, but burnt down in 1894. The current structure was erected in two stages, with an enlarged central portion completed in 1914.
In 2012, the station underwent a major renovation transforming it into the centerpiece of a new transit-oriented mixed-use development built on the site's former rail yards. The station house reopened in the summer of 2014, hosting the 112-room Crawford Hotel, several restaurants and retailers, and a train hall.

It's even neater than Washington DC Union Station. I'm currently residing in Omaha. I'd love to do a train trip to Denver and back. The West Bound Zephyr leaves at 11:30 pm, and arrives in the in the morning.

I hope to make it there one day, but for now I am going to keep pushing Salt Lake City to do the Rio Grande Plan which would bring trains back to our historic 113 year-old train station, the Rio Grande Depot.

The light rail station is actually a few blocks away from the main commuter rail station where the line from the airport comes into....not shown in this video.

Amazing! How did you edit out all of the junkies?! That’s some impressive photo shop, of course the urine and vomit smells don’t really translate over video. 😂 seriously though, I don’t know when this was filmed but it’s super scetchy now, be advised. It’s pretty much a haven for crime and drug abuse. I worked at the Target on 16th street mall for a few months and rode light rail to work. I’m a pretty tough individual and I kept eyes in the back of my head.

I filmed it during the first Covid lockdown of 2020. Very few people were out, few businesses were open. You most likely have a DA in your city that is soft on crime. ‘Criminals are a societal issue, not an individual issue”. Just look how that thinking works for Los Angeles…it doesn’t, that’s my point. Start voting for DA.s that are tough on crime.

S. As someone who lives here, Denver’s public transit system is nowhere near a European one. The car is very much the king of the road here. But union station is nice though.

It’s really not, the station is nice and provides a good level of Integration the system as a whole is mostly single tracked, has small stations, accessibility issues, can only run 2 car units on two lines and leaves little room for expansion.

While the station is nice, the capacity for rail seems to be greatly limited by the platform sizes and the quantity of platforms in comparison too each line that operates. It’s a clean and modern station just like the rest of Denver’s rail network however numerous oversights have been made that limit the network, including the mostly single tracked yellow line, small stations that limit the amount of cars to about 2 (4 on the airport line) It also has some minor accessibility issues and many brand new at grade crossings,

The only thing beautiful about Union Station is the architecture. Besides that, there are a thousand sketchballs and open drug use is rampant. Not to mention all the trash on the streets surrounding the station.
