Rest in peace, President Carter. I am Brazilian and my husband was German. Although we never lived in the United States, we both have always admired you, Your Excellency. Carter: 40 yrs HfH was penance for his economic policies raising 4% variable rate home loans to over 20%. Millions became homeless in USA...😢 Price of gas went up 4x, 5x, limited to 5 gallons a week & had to wait hours in line. Your car would use 6 gallons of gas while you were waiting to buy 5. Masters & PHDs were working at gas stations & clerks at stores, BS and high school, you were out of work for 1 to 2 years or longer until Reagan came along. The Rich donors that got him elected, he repaid them by pardoning their sons who had fled to Canada to avoid going well poor and middle-class sons were chewed up in Vietnam. The man is not a saint.

The fact Jimmy Carter, President (1977-1981) made it to be100 makes me happy and is just good news. I would've been no more that 1 yrs. old so I don't remember anything about him being President. Times have changed since then. The first President I've ever known was Ronald Reagan (1981-1989). I was 6 yrs. old then and remember having complete respect for him as our President. With both there were no school shootings, God's Ten Commandments were on walls (my first grade teacher didn't like it and had it taken down but I loved it because what I read on it gave me peace).

He was a good President, and a very good ex President, monitoring elections and spearheading the "Habitat for Humanity" movement, etc. Definitely the best President in my lifetime. Not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but a damn good President. We had no wars while he was President, very very rare in American politics to have a President that doesn't do war mongering. As best I can recall, during his Presidency, his human rights platform was a good one, I agreed with it. But he missed the boat on Iran. The Shah of Iran was probably the world's worst violator of human rights, and he supported that Shah to the end. And then that so called "hostage rescue" attempt, it doomed his re election prospects. He was a President who stood for peace. May he rest in peace.
