Ten years ago, Carter was signing his new book in Borders. The secret service did not allow anyone to stand before him in line for too long. When it was my turn, I asked Carter if it was true that he was still a Sunday school teacher. Carter looked up, gave me a big smile and started a long conversation with me; he was very proud of being a Sunday school teacher. I will always cherish this moment.

Carter was a man with a consciensce. One of the first things he did was to set free/pardon young men who had refused to go to the Vietnam war. Today that would be a Libertarian party decision only. Our norwegian "moderate"governments have the last decades done the complete opposite ,copying Israel's rightwing and North korean communism : Forcing also a percentage of women to have to serve in the military . An insignificant correction. Jim Carter graduated from the Naval Academy with a BS in Engineering; he graduated with distinction. It's not clear what type of engineering. He received a hardship discharge after his father died suddenly and he had to take care of the peanut farm.

He is the hardest working person I have ever met, and literally could build circles around all of us. A great mind, humanitarian, and gentleman to say the least. All that is painfully absent most of the time these days. If we could all be just a little more like Jimmy, the world would be a far better place...
