Truck driving has become one of the worst jobs in the U.S. because of the Federal Government and their interference by people that have never seen the inside of a commercial truck. Yet , they claim to "know" how to drive one , and what it takes to keep one safe while on the road . On top of companies hiring untrained operators , and ditching the proper training , they put these UNTRAINED people in equipment who can barely speak English , and who mostly can't understand road signs . Case in po int , I worked for a company at which , the "TERMINAL MANAGER" did NOT even have a CDL . He got his chest puffed up when I challenged him to spend two weeks with me , in my truck. "It is simple" , I told him . "You sleep whem I sleep , and when I'm awake you're awake ." When I left the terminal , I was away from home 39 days ! A Rhesus monkey can be taught to operate a truck . But it takes more than just holding a steering wheel to drive an 80,000 pound machine safely . The "load brokers" have screwed the drivers so badly , that nobody wants to pull the cheap freight , and the "mega-fleet" companies dould care less how they treat their employees . The "fix" is to get the Government , the ATA , cnd the C.E.O.s out of the picture , and give the working people in the trucks the mpney they should be getting .
