Do you know why I subscribed? Not only because of the repair content, the reason is because you are a very likable person 😊 also you look very kind and care about people, that what i saw about you (i can recognize i good person by looking at his face also i think you are X-military guy). i have something to add if you allowed me: 1-first thing first, please measure the big caps first(its dangerous as you know) 2-it good to add flux to the copper braid so that it will suck solder much much better. 3- cut the amount you need to use (that way its not acting like a heatsink, also cut the old/used braid, by cutting it it will improve the work also. 4- that solder looks like Kester with 44 flux type cored in it, for sure i want to clean that residue with IPA or other solvent. Very nice video and i appreciate that you didnt cut it or edit it so we can see everything, thank you brother.

I bought my ESR70 5 years ago excellent meter but now I am using the GME-236 is more fast meter. For someone who fix things like me is better option. Anyway I have both.

Thanks for the repair vid and helping out your neighbor! I just won one of the for free with Digiwish and can't wait for it to get here. P.S. the asterisk/star/* indicates it's using a test current of 20mA instead of 2mA.

Oh the smell of the capacitors in video power supplies, and when the heat from the soldering iron hit them that was even worse. There is a Bob Parker ESR Meter design thats still available in Australia sold by Jaycar and Altronics and its a self build kit, I can recommend it as i have used one for about twenty years. I had always promised myself that one day I would get a Peak though.

Ugh .. foul! I'm just doing a senny amp that's stuffed full of foul smelling caps. There will be a video soon!

Of course all those electrolytics have dried up being in a heater and being part of a switching circuit. That ESR70 looks good.

I think the ESR70 will be a very welcome tool in the workshop. That power supply would have been far better off in the bottom, as heat rises. At least there's a draft of cooler air at the bottom. Poor thing's probably sat in a bubble of hot air, promoting premature failure. The quality of the components wasn't exactly great. All-in-all mistakes were made...!

If I lost all my esr testers and had to replace them then the only ones I would bother buying again would be the Peak esr70 gold, the Bob parker blue esr meter and in third place the Alignimals mf470. All the others have some ridiculous issue that makes working with them everyday very tedious.

I found the old ESR wizard quite good too. Great probes.

I don’t believe you can use the PEAK ESR to measure capacitance in circuit. You can only measure ESR in circuit.
@AndyDoz8 ай бұрын
Quite from the manual "If the presence of external circuitry did not adversely affect the capacitance measurement, the capacitor value will be displayed" and "If the capacitance could not be accurately determined, the display will only show the value of ESR measured'
