Hi , your tomato with the leaf curl looks like Danny from Deep South Homestead had problems with . He traced it back to his compost. His compost had hay in it and the cows ate the hay and it passed thru to the manure he used in his compost. Turns out it was Grazon a weed killer that lots of farmers used in his area to keep weeds out of the hay fields. Might want to check it out. Beautiful garden !

Awe, I’m just in love with your garden and your meal looks fantastic! You and my Father are so similar in cooking and love for veggies! I’m 31 and sick with lupus (previously diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis) and on a strong infusion and other drugs and the power of HEALTHY eating is tremendous! I personally can attest to that as I’m sure many others can. It’s so refreshing to watch your videos and you teach us so much about different vegetables to gardening and using compost for healthier plants, etc. I actually found you years ago through your woodworking videos which is my obsession. I’ve always loved vegetables and have in the past had my own gardens but recent summers I’ve been unable to for a multitude of reasons. This makes me want to turn the clock back to April and start building my garden fence and my garden boxes, etc! I love healthy eating and especially because it promotes healthy living and it’s so important for anyone and especially for those like myself with autoimmune diseases and during times like Covid... we need to take care of ourselves internally. I think the majority of ppl like myself have gotten to use to waisting money at the stores and have lost self sufficiency in more ways than I want to count but anyways I enjoy watching your content and thank you for the info you so graciously share with us because we listen!!!
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
Thanks. My wife has Sjogrens which is also an autoimmune disorder along with chemical sensitivity syndrome, tremors, and rheumatoid arthritis so I know a lot about living with a person that has special needs and limitations. It is very hard to know exactly what you are eating anymore if you don't grow it. The flavors of heirlooms are amazing but on the other hand lack of disease resistance can lead to losses so every year is different with a garden. Especially when you try to keep it as organic as possible. Start small so you can enjoy what you are doing without feeling overloaded in the beginning. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
@jewdd19894 жыл бұрын
Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations Thank you so much for responding! Yep with first PsA and now with Lupus I was confirmed with Sjogrens as well. I get the very dry, goopy eyes, dry mouth and my lymph nodes will get so swollen I feel like I’m getting sick about everyday. It’s a cruel disease but thankfully she has you and you have her! I can’t imagine having extra sensitivity or risk to medications she has to be on, she’s one tough woman! It’s hard enough after infusion with the nausea, pain, etc but to be more effected... She’s amazing! It’s bizarre but I crave vegetables after the infusion. I gag on sweets and proteins but I’d eat nothing but veggies and still do often when I can. PsA is similar to RA in the fact they both damage joints, organs, go systemic, etc. plus severe, chronic swelling/inflammation and like you said a host of other autoimmune diseases go hand in hand with other autoimmune conditions. I still believe I have PsA bc my joints are so affected and I swell 3-4x my normal size but I also learned through labs and other bizarre symptoms that have become aggressive in declining my health, it’s definitely lupus. Anyways, thank you for sharing and I hope she’s doing well and continues to improve. Back on the gardening subject, I’ll start small and limit what I grow. I have two Aussies that love digging and especially eating veggies lol so I’ll be sure to build just what I need to keep them out. I love your garden, the fence, the wildlife props and tools you’ve built like your spinning bumble bees... ingenious! It’s organized, and the amounts of information you have is so helpful! Where I live it’s dry, arid and easy to burn gardens. Any tips for holding moisture would be greatly appreciated. I’m inspired to get on top of it lol!

This is such a good video, it’s nice to see how your wife prepares the veggies for the grill it looked delicious! I think the deformed tomatoes are from a broad leaf weed killer called Grazon, if you google it there are several articles on how it’s damaging gardens and fields, I would be worried to eat the tomatoes. I also looked up how to remediate the soil from the damage it has caused because it stays in the soil several years, activated carbon or charcoal will do the trick 25 lb bucket from Amazon around 50 dollars, I think you mix one pound to a gallon of water and cover 100x100 square feet, I would do it heavier and mix the soil well, it won’t hurt your garden it will be good for it especially by pulling the Grazon out. If you have any compost left you could mix it in that before you use it. I hope this helps you or anyone else that has this problem.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
It is funny because all the tomato beds were filled with the same load of compost that I purchased this spring. Only 2 varieties are showing signs like that and half of those 2 varieties look normal so I am wondering if maybe the seed stock may have been the problem and been exposed to something like that causing mutations in the next generation. Wish there was a cheap way to test for it. Thanks for watching.

FINALLY got the same desperately needed rain here. I am south/southwest of you in PA. at about 2500 ft. elevation. I have to pay a lot for city water here and am really afraid to see the water bill this time after so many weeks of daily watering! I like my grilled peppers just like you did yours. Grilling or roasting always brings out the BEST flavors. I always grow WAY too many peppers (esp. hot ones) and probably have as many as you do. I am growing Jimmy Nardello for the first time. How do you preserve this one? I don't eat peppers until they are red or fully colored so I have to wait longer. CRAZY pest year so far. Almost zero Japanese beetles here. How about there? NEVER EVER saw that in all my years of gardening. They are always out about July 1-4 just like clockwork. I think the extreme dry soil killed most of them off before they pupated into beetles this year. Also never saw so many white flies until this dry season here. Heavier than typical flea beetles but not seeing other normal pests. We will be weeding like crazy soon after this rain. All those weed seeds that have been sitting dormant in the drought but will be sprouting up everywhere in the next couple days! Still such a relief to get rain. Some of the trees were even starting to look sad here. I never thought I would be looking forward to some cloudy days! GREAT video. Thanks for sharing. Made me hungry. I think I will grill some zucchini and maybe even green peppers this evening. Another first. I have a giant eggplant ready to pick BEFORE I get red tomatoes! Gardening always has new surprises each year.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
Wow, you are up in those beautiful Pennsylvania mountains. We had to hook our previous house up to city water after our well was contaminated and could never get anything to grow with all the chlorine they added to the water. It was like putting roundup on the plants. Killed 4 Japanese beetles today. The first that I have seen. Last year we only had a couple also. The flea beetles are terrible and the neem no longer stops them. Actually they must think I am putting gravy on the leaves for them. It worked the first couple weeks. Cucumber beetles and squash bugs are invading now and I am going to try Captain Jack's dust now as it was a recommend organic dust. Just waiting for the wind to slow down so it can be applied. My elderberries are dying from the dry. We spend over a hour a night watering and I am afraid to take much more from the well for things like trees. I understand west of you gypsy moths are a big problem this year. Grilling it the best way to enjoy veggies. The Jimmy nardello peppers are great for things like stirfry, pickling with banana peppers, salads, and anything else that you want to add a sweet pimiento flavor to. Take care. Thanks for watching.

Your tomato problem sounds like Grazon is in the compost! They look exactly like Deep South Homesteads tomatoes. Danny traced it back to the hay the cows were eating. The video is called “is your compost the problem?” You might want to watch. He wound up pulling up all of his affected plants(loaded with tomatoes 😩) so that they didn’t eat the chemical! He was so upset not knowing about the chemical since he was trying so hard to be organic!

Do you fertilize your peppers to get such good yields? I was amazed by the yield of the Cubanelles, or are they simply a heavy producing pepper? I love the idea of the nadapeno peppers and will order seeds. I noticed the Jimmy Nardellos in seed catalogues and will order those as well, they sound tasty. Can you show how you ferment your peppers. Re the pointy bottom tomatoes - some varieties have that. Oxheart has a less pronounced point. Heirloom seeds I got from a Mennonite family had them as well. It's just a shape, no problem with the taste.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
I just use compost. Topped off all the beds with it this spring. All peppers produce heavily with the right conditions. We have had nothing but sunshine with warm nights that really helps and the bugs never bother them either. It's not normal for those 2 varieties and lately many are having a problem with purchased compost containing a chemical used on hay called Grazon that causes mutations like that. We plant the same varieties each year and never have seen this before. Thanks for watching.

I'm about ready to give up. I've worked really hard in my garden. 1st time in 20+ yrs since l had one. A few days ago l went out there and all but 4 of my lettuce is gone. I had kale I've never had before. It was about 3 ft around 2.5 ft tall or so. Gone. They ate everything except the strong vein that goes through the leaf. I noticed they're nibbling on my cabbage which most likely will be next and so on. Even my cayenne peppers! Just the pepper! Lol..smh.. l covered the remaining lettuce with milk cartons. I think l know why l have very few beans that came up. Just stubs. I'm so disappointed. I guess the only thing left to do is an electric fence. I don't know what else to do. I won't hurt them and where we live they could be everywhere. I've seen 2 Groundsquirrels that live under a shed. But I'm sure there is bunnies etc too. They're so cute but I'm so mad at them. I live in the north so my garden is just getting to going. Eek .. exhausting
