I love an artist' studio tour as quite often it is already an art.

New Subbie here…So glad to meet you. Lol. I found an old drafting table at an antique mall a few months ago for 250$. I think I may bite the bullet, and see if it’s still there! Yours is really nice! I usually paint with a dog in my lap & a beanbag type pillow to balance. Want to start doing larger paintings. You’re awesome by the way! I’ve been painting mainly with transparent Mijello Mission Golds, one pigment colors. Thx for your inspiration! 🖌🙏🏻👩🏻🎨. -Messy Mendy ( Love Drums…Married to a drummer 🥁🤗).

Thank you for the tour Matt. Your studio is neat.. we have few things in common, John Pike pallette, painting at night and off course pile of paintings 🙂. I feel jealous about that Joseph zbuckvich painting. I guess that is a pricey possession 🤝

I would love to have a painting space other than our little kitchen table. I have that John Pike palette. Love it.

Interesting to see your set up, it's very professional as expected. I heard a tip about reusing "failed" or "practice" paintings: you can put them in a bathtub of water and all the paint will wash away, leaving you with clean paper good to go after rinsing and drying. I haven't tried it yet, but I will do eventually. For now, my early paintings serve to give me reference of how far I've come (not far...) and what I would like to improve on.

That's interesting. With paper being so pricey, I may have to try that. Thanks for sharing!

@@learntopaintwatercolor Hi Matthew, I tried it last night and it didn't work! Maybe it depends on what paints you use, how staining they are? I heard the tip on a KZbin video by William "Skip" Lawrence.

Hi Matthew, thank you for sharing the details about your working space. I came across your video while researching the info on the easels. I paint watercolors mostly but i also do drawing a lot and oils rarely. My first thought was to get an H easel, cuz it allows to put on large size plus work standing. I do love the look of the drafting table you got though, it reminds me of my art school years and overall it’s just cozy 😊. My question is: can it get more at a vertical angle like for drawing process? And is it high enough to work while standing? I don’t always sit, i prefer standing to use my entire hand from the shoulder, specially for larger paper size. Thank you in advance, p.s. love those interview with artists that you do

What watercolors do you use.? I seach for a bit more high quality paint, but there is so much out there on the market. It's a bit overwhelming to find something.

I see a guitar in the background; I sometimes like to play a musical instrument whilst waiting for my washes to dry -I wonder if you do, too? Interesting video

Nice space. Do you know about a small pallet (6 colours or so) with good mixing space? I don’t have enough room for a big pallet.
@learntopaintwatercolor3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I've always bought big palettes. You may see if Holbein makes anything that size.

I wondered about the table you paint on, with all the water I would be afraid of wood ....
@learntopaintwatercolor2 жыл бұрын
I've used it almost daily for 3 years and it's not shown any signs of damage. It's a drafting table so it must be finished properly.

Do you ever run your failed pictures under the tap, and gently agitate the paint? It can leave some interesting backgrounds to work with. 😊
