Such a great post, Scott. I remember MTT when he conducted the Buffalo Symphony - truly a world class conductor! The Mendelssohn Violin Concerto has always been one of my favorites. These community assets need our support and appreciation. Thank you.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this video. I thought it was a subject worth bringing up. Classical music is so enriching and I hope more and more people decide to give it a try. I have some new classical records videos coming up soon. Stay tuned and thanks for being so supportive.

Looks like a beautiful facility. Love the “pre-season” offering to give a wider-range of folks the opportunity to enjoy the live music bc as you said, symphony performances can be pricey. Was my father’s favorite style of music. Great video Scott! 🎻🎵

Thanks for checking this video out, Chance. I forgot to mention that they have a chamber music series that is often $10 (as they require just a few performers) that can be a delight too. Also they do a few kids concerts, which are inexpensive, and you don't have to be a kid to get in! I saw a nice performance of Peter and the Wolf and A Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra for $15 each!

@@ThePressingMatters it’s terrific they realize cost can often be a barrier to the music/attendance/creating a love of classical with a new generation. Chess, not checkers. 😀

Most people cannot get to concerts often. Expense, they're too busy, Covid concerns which is rising again. Live music is unarguably the 'reference." Not music amplified; that's half music, half electronics. It's amazing how hard it is to see a live performance of The Nutcracker with a real orchestra playing and not just a cd coming over a sound system. Where I hear the sound of live instruments the most often is while walking through downtown. It's not rare when you see a saxophone player on the corner hoping for some coin from passerby. I once walked by (slowly) a clarinet player. I couldn't believe how the reeds vibrating was so big a part of the sound. They literally propelled the sound. When you see a trumpet player playing a street corner downtown, they usually don't play loud enough to create a big effect. But one time there was this trumpet player who really let go and was playing loud on purpose. The sound of his trumpet was echoing among the concrete and glass facades of the tall buildings and skyscrapers all around. You never heard an acoustic like that. It was so unique and downright otherworldly. When you are close enough to someone playing an instrument, there is a sharp focus, but as you move further away as in seating at an orchestral concert, the sound becomes more diffuse and less pinpoint. Sit further back and you'll hear more bass and warmth. Closer up the sound is more brilliant; like you are sitting in the middle of a Mercury Living Presence recording session.

I wish you were may neighbor - I would have love to have gone with you. I've been to the Detroit's Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center a few years back (in my neighborhood) and went to Teatro alla Scala with my wife on our honeymoon. I never did like audiophiles comparing their stereo's with live music with the attention of replicating and comparing their system to live music. They will never be the same and are completely different entities. This is never more true when talking about a symphony played in a symphonic hall. I do agree that it is worth seeing a great live music and realizing how awesome it is but going to see a good symphonic hall is not a poor mans sport. Thanks for sharing another great video Scott.

Thank you Jason! It would be great to have enjoyed it with you. I was in such a receptive mood and the music just washed over me. I don't know if you noticed by R Strauss' Death and Transfiguration was also performed. I was perhaps more amazed at hearing that, because though I have it on record, I never fully 'got' it. This was extraordinarily moving and emotional. I agree there is no point comparing the experience. It's a totally different thing. The music may be the same, but the live performance has a certain magic - seeing the the instruments being played, the skill employed, the wash of sound and joy of making music - that's incomparable. Glad you enjoyed this video, my friend.
I never understood why you can't go faster than light - until now!
